"Kill them!"
The demigods looked at Agnostos with terror as they saw a flash of gold from underneath the hood.
A swarm of monsters came from all sides, cornering them. Agnostos let out a hoarse laugh as he stepped forward, holding out his sword.
"Now it's finally time to say goodbye, godlings." He hissed. "Today, you die." Reference, anybody?
"A-Agnostos! Stop! This isn't you!" Hermes yelled, his eyes nervously flitting from the horde of monsters and Agnostos himself.
"You're right, it's not." He chuckled, which sounded like nails clawing down a chalkboard. "Kronos has gotten so much stronger, he can control who he likes through the eidolons. Except for those demigods, especially that Aphrodite spawn that made the eidolons swear on the Styx to never inhabit one of them again, dang it. Oh well, I have a much better puppet to control. So much power."
"You sick bastard!" Frank gritted his teeth. "Killing people like it's nothing! You're a monster."
"Well, technically speaking both Agnostos and I are monsters, but one of us is more powerful." He reached out his hand and squeezed it into a fist. Hermes suddenly doubled over, his blue eyes widened with dread. His mouth opened into a silent scream; his face so full of anguish that it would've made more sense if he was being burned alive.
"Stop it!" Hazel screamed. "Stop it, Agnostos! Fight him back! You can't let him take over!" Her eyes filled with unshed tears as Hermes looked deathly pale and collapsed onto the ground.
"I will send you to TARTARUS YOU MONSTER!" Nico shouted, his voice full of dark, black hatred as he unsheathed his own sword. The black metal seemed to pulse even further with a deep purple glow, and he stabbed it into the floor.
"Kill him!" He roared, pointing the army of skeletons and zombies towards Agnostos.
"Holy shi—ACK!" Agnostos' voice changed back into its normal pitch, and he toppled at the crawling army of the undead, looking terrified. "What the actual FUDGE?! NICO DI ANGELO, WHAT THE HEL IS THIS?!" He slashed his sword at the first row of skeletons. "Get these things off me!" Nico's eyes hardened at the sight of Agnostos being overwhelmed by his undead army.
"You just tried to kill Hermes, you know that, right?" He raised a brow.
"I tried to WHAT?!" Agnostos tried to fend off the giant army, a tint of horror lacing his words.
"We saw you!" Will agreed, looking terrified. Agnostos sighed in relief and fell to his knees as Nico's army fell back.
"That wasn't—" Agnostos coughed violently and clutched his chest, his face twisted in pain. "Sorry, I'm not really feeling my best. I did get possessed, after all."
"Whatever was inside him was probably a possessing spirit." Hazel murmured. "Makes sense. Agnostos, are you ok?" He nodded, opening his mouth to say something but froze as he took in his surroundings.
"More monsters?!" He gagged. "Oh, come ON! I am not in the mood to kill something, you know." He glared at all the monsters, who cowered under his gaze.
"No need to work here." Nico snapped his fingers, and the army immediately went into action, killing the monsters one by one. "Just try not to die!"
"Delightful." Agnostos rolled his eyes as he got back up, dodging a stray arrow as he did. "I'd love to almost die again." He quickly killed the first few monsters, grimacing as a steady pain in his stomach grew.
"Ow." He rubbed his temples as his head throbbed. "Stupid headache." Hazel looked at him in concern as he stumbled slightly.
"Stop staring." He snapped at the monsters, who were gazing at him, confused. "It's rude, you know." The sounds of battle roared around his ears, but right now all the sound he could hear was the pounding of his head and the rush of blood in his ears. He leaned on the wall for support, panting heavily.
"Agnos? Are you ok?" Nico asked, approaching him carefully.
"I'm fine, are you? You just summoned a whole army of zombies." He glanced up at the pale teen. Nico just shrugged.
"I've gotten stronger over the years." He said simply. "You don't look too good. You're all pale and stuff." Agnostos subconsciously touched his face.
"Nah, I'm good." He said, trying to stand but his legs started to shake.
"You're obviously not." He raised his voice over the racket of the fight. "You're all shaky. That fight with the eidolon must've drained you a lot." He slid his arm under his shoulder and steadied him. Agnostos sighed.
"Don't waste your time on me, Neeks." He grumbled under his breath.
"You're a valuable asset to this quest, Agnos. Even though I don't know what you're doing for the Romans, it's pretty clear that it's important." Nico replied, guiding him to a large, flat stone that randomly appeared in the corridor.
"Not really." He muttered as he slowly sat down on it, wincing as his head throbbed again. "I'm not that important, anyway. Hermes is a god. Hazel is a child of the Big Three, Frank is like the most powerful kid of Mars and a legacy of Poseidon—"
"Shut it. You're important too, you just defeated an eidolon, Kampe, and based on what Hazel said, you also saved her from a kere. You should rest." He patted his shoulder reassuringly, unknowingly hitting Agnostos' Achilles' spot. He flinched.
"When was the last time you slept?" Will asked, jumping out of a sunlit corner. "You don't seem like you get much sleep. Do monsters sleep?"
"Yeah, we do. I don't remember the last time I slept well, though..."
"WELL, YOU'D BETTER GET TO SLEEP RIGHT NOW OR I WILL SEND YOU TO ETERNAL SLEEP IN TARTARUS!" Nico yelled suddenly, making Agnostos jump.
"No. I am not going to sleep, not when all of us are in danger like this." He tried to get up, but Nico just pulled him back down.
"Sleep." He commanded. "Right now." Agnostos shook his head stubbornly.
"No. Watch out!" A spittle of poison whizzed past Nico's head, narrowly missing him. "I can't sleep. I need to protect them so they don't die."
"You need to sleep." Nico insisted.
"He's right, my boyfriend." Will agreed. "You really should sleep."
"I'm fine." Agnostos leaned back as he found a random pool of water and skimmed the surface, feeling the water rejuvenate him. He sighed silently as he felt new energy course through him.
"You really shouldn't—" Will frowned as Agnostos got up quickly.
"Blood rushes won't kill me, stop worrying." He waved them away. "Don't bother. I have some monsters to kill. HEY CYCLOPS! GET YOUR UGLY BUTT OVER HERE AND LET ME KILL YOU!" He charged at a nearby monster, Sicarius out gleaming venomously. Nico facepalmed.
"That guy does not understand the meaning of 'rest.'" Will noted as he scanned the battle. "Remind me to give him melatonin medicine."
