EPILOGUE
astronaut

FIVE MONTHS LATER

"Columbia?" Brooke widens her eyes, "Holy shit, that's insane! Congrats, dude! Wait... where did... where's Finn... you know?"

"He got into Yale and Columbia," Gwen responds, "And even though Yale is his dream school, he wants to stay with me, so... you know."

"You guys are so fucking cute together," Kate tells her, "I'm so happy I was right."

"They got together five months ago and you still won't stop rubbing in the fact that you were right?" Ansley sighs.

"I mean, I was right..." Kate trails off.

"Right about what?" Finn asks, entering the conversation by wrapping an arm around Gwen's shoulder.

"Right about us," Gwen says, "Kate bet we would end up together."

"Ansley, aren't you supposed to be the smart one?" Finn jokes, earning an eye roll from Ansley.

"You're lucky I approve because you're smart," Ansley narrows her eyes.

"You guys coming to my graduation party tonight?" Kate asks.

"You're having a graduation party before we graduate?" Gwen furrows her eyebrows.

"Shut the fuck up and come to my party."

"Yes, ma'am."

The party is nice, if a little gauche.

Kate is flirting with some boy, which leaves Ansley to look for literally any girl with low standards, as Brooke groans loudly.

"I don't get it," Brooke shrugs, "I'm so hot. How do you guys have so much more game than me?"

"Ouch," Gwen chuckles softly as Elliot comes over, "Hey, El."

"Hi," Elliot responds, "You guys bored?"

"Definitely," Brooke widens her eyes in annoyance, "Wish I had a joint."

"Since when do you smoke?" Gwen furrows her eyebrows.

"Since I had game," Brooke says, causing Gwen's jaw to drop slightly as Elliot remains confused at the statement.

"Well, if you want, I have a joint and I have a car," Elliot shrugs.

Brooke smiles softly, "I'd like that."

Gwen watches Brooke and Elliot leave with wide eyes.

Finn approaches, wrapping an arm around his girlfriend for the second time that day.

"You wanna get out of here?"

Gwen raises her eyebrows.

"Not like that," Finn shakes his head, "Gross. I mean, not you- you aren't gross- and the thought of that isn't gross but I'm immature and I say 'ew' when my parents kiss still--"

"I'm gonna cut you off before you say something you regret," Gwen chuckles softly, "Yeah, let's get out of here."

"Is that the North Star?"

"Nope. Just a really bright star."

Gwen rolls her eyes, "Okay, show off much, Mr Astronomer?"

"As much as I know you're making fun of me, I used to want to be an astronaut," Finn chuckles softly, "Gave up, though. I like staying on Earth."

"What's so special about Earth?"

Finn sighs jokingly, "It's embarrassing, but there's this girl I kind of like. She's probably my favorite thing here."

"You have a crush I don't know about?" Gwen jokes, "What's she like?"

"You know her really well."

"Ew, stop," Gwen scrunches her nose up in comical disgust, "Ick."

"No," He groans, "Don't say that. Don't say 'ick'. I take it back."

Gwen chuckles, "Alright, you're forgiven. Here."

She hands him one of her headphones, and the quiet sound of 'Back to the Old House' by The Smiths plays.

I would rather not go back to the old house

"I said I didn't like The Smiths, didn't I?" Finn asks, a smile on his face.

There's too many bad memories, too many memories

"Yeah," Gwen acknowledges, "You also told me you hated me multiple times in the seventh grade, and now I'm your girlfriend, so..."

When you cycled by, here began all my dreams

"I could do this everyday," Finn says, "Look at the stars with you."

The saddest thing I've ever seen

"You fucking cheeseball."

And you never knew how much I really liked you

"I actually like this song," Finn tells her.

Because I never told you, but I meant to, are you still there? Or have you moved away?

"Why's that?" Gwen questions.

I would love to go back to the old house

Finn looks over at her, his eyes glittering because of what Gwen presumes is the moon, "It reminds me of you."

But I never will.
