The sun had sunk below the horizon and the sky grew dark quicker than normal. Storm clouds began to roll in and all the older kids who were gathered around the campfire noticed. Quickly one of them put it out and they decided to go in for the night...except for two. Louis and Clementine watched as the others disappeared into the dorm building while they sat under the shelter of the balcony above the stairs that led to the admin building. The rain began to fall with a gentle pitter patter that grew a little heavier within minutes.
"It's been awhile since I've sat in the rain, peacefully," Clementine sighed softly, planting a soft kiss on Louis's cheek before resting her head on his shoulder.
"Yeah," Louis agreed with a soft exhale, a light dusting of pink spreading across his cheeks at the affection. "The last few times it has rained, we were dealing with pure chaos."
"Tell me about it," Clem looked up at Louis.
The first time was the night Marlon and Brody died. The second time was when they were dealing with Lilly and her raiders at their boat. Clementine and Louis snuggled closely together on the porch as they watched the rain come down, their fingers intertwined. Clem's face then scrunched in thought, before she looked up at Louis.
"Would you...like to dance in the rain, perhaps?" She asked him, a small smile spreading its way across her face.
Louis looked down at Clem, wearing a grin. "I'd love nothing more," he said and stood up, helping Clem to her feet...well...foot. He supported her weight and helped her down the stairs, since her leg got amputated the same night the chaos at the boat occurred. It was because of a walker bite, but luckily the love of his life survived. When they stepped into the rain, their clothes and hair immediately became soaked. It chilled them both at first, and Clem shuttered softly.
"It's a little cold," She chuckled and looked up at Louis.
"It is," He hummed and looked down at her.
She carefully stepped onto his boot, since he would mainly do the dancing for them. He'd have Clem stand on his boot as they held onto one another and he slowly rocked in a circle. Clementine reached her arms up and snaked them around Louis's neck as his hands gripped her waist. The grasp was gentle yet firm. Clem gently rested her head on Louis's chest—listening as his heart beat behind his ribcage. She exhaled softly, relaxing as they slowly circled and her nostrils filled with his usual, yet attractive and musty smell. Louis gently nuzzled his face into her hair with a sigh and closed his eyes.
They continued circling for a little while longer, but the rain came down harder and the ground quickly grew muddy below Louis's feet. As he went to take a step, his foot slipped—causing him to fall. His arms quickly squeezed Clem's body close to his as he fell backwards, landing on the ground. Clementine landed right on top of him, and pushed herself up a bit to look down at him.
"Ugh...shit," Louis groaned, looking up at Clementine, his eyes filled with a little worry. "Are you okay?" he asked, releasing his grip on her slightly.
"I'm fine," Clem told him with a smile. "You broke my fall."
"I did that intentionally," Louis huffed. "I'm not going to let a pretty face like yours get covered in mud."
Clem rolled her eyes and shook her head, sitting up fully as she sat on his stomach. "It's not like a little mud would hurt me."
"It may not hurt you, but then I wouldn't be able to admire your full beauty," Louis pouted as he looked up at the girl who sat on him...even though he thought she was beautiful no matter what. Let it be mud or blood caking her face, it didn't change his image of her. Clementine couldn't think of a response, so she simply shook her head. Louis sat up fully, causing her to slip off his stomach and into his lap.
"You're such a dork," She finally chuckled, before she scooped up a bit of mud and tapped him on the nose with it.
Louis's eyes widened and he did his classic act—pretending to be offended. "How could you, Clem?" He asked, holding her by the waist with one arm as he brought his other hand up to his chest and placed it over his heart. Clem laughed a little, until she felt the cold and wet texture of mud now on her nose.
"Hey!" She giggled, looking up at Louis with a playful scowl.
"What?" He smiled slyly.
Clem shook her head, "I love you," she looked back up at the boy who held her.
"I love you, too," Louis replied softly, before he leaned down and connected their lips as the rain poured around them.
Clem melted into the kiss, her arms snaking back up around his neck. Their lips pressed tightly together—the simple kiss quickly escalating into a small makeout session. Louis gently gripped Clem's chin, his other hand slipping down from her waist a little and Clementine's arms slipped down from his neck. One rested on his shoulder, and the other rested on his chest. The two kept kissing—until they needed to separate for air. The two bodies parted, panting softly as they each caught their breath. Both of their faces were a light pink with slightly swollen lips as their eyes met.
"Are you two lovebirds going to stay out there in the rain all night?" A voice called from across the courtyard. Clem and Louis both jumped and looked over, seeing Violet. She was staring at them in disgust.
"We...We'll be in in a minute!" Clem called and then looked down at Louis. That's our que."
Louis carefully stood up, holding Clem in his arms since they left her crutches over on the stairs to the admin building. He sighed softly and carried her over, before he set her down and handed her the crutches. She accepted them and stood up, shifting her weight onto them as Louis carefully helped her across the muddy courtyard and into the dorm building.
