( chapter three ! )
𝟢𝟢𝟥. 𝖼𝗈𝖻𝗋𝖺 𝗄𝖺𝗂 𝗇𝖾𝗏𝖾𝗋 𝖽𝗂𝖾𝗌

It was the day after Halloween. Mackenzie had witnessed Miguel hurt and not knowing what to do. The strange man who barged in and took over — help Miguel get home safely.

She hadn't thought about anything else but him the rest of the night. It was the first thing that entered her mind when she woke up.

To try and past time, she made a gift basket from him and his family. As she roamed the stores her basket began to fill up — which for once was a good sign.

"Is that all for today?" The man at the register asked as the last two items slid on the conveyer belt.

"Yep." Mackenzie minded, having her card already out and ready to check out.

She had planned so much before her day had began. But of course her main priority was to make sure Miguel was okay. She paid for the items and left in a hurry. Her pace quickly increased as she was lost in her thoughts.

As she hurried to her car, the girl took a moment to catch her breath. After all that time she hadn't even taken a break for herself. She put on the radio to possibly calm the mood — helping only a little.

It was only a short drive to the apartments where Miguel lived. Before she left her car, she took in a deep breath. It was going to be okay.

Mackenzie grabbed the basket and headed to the Diaz's front door. The Diaz home was quiet. Miguel lived with his sister, father, and uncle. It was a nice home.

Even if he wasn't happy here, he felt at home. Mackenzie knocked on the door and waited. After a little while, Carmen, his mother, opened the door. Mackenzie held her breath. The lady in front of her had curly locks and looked very tired. Like she hadn't slept for days.

The woman seemed surprised to see her at first, then smiled as she invited her in. The woman noticed the basket and asked about it.

Mackenzie replied, saying, "That's for Miguel." Carmen asked, "Oh? Are you a friend of Miggy?"

"I am." Mackenzie kept smiling at Carmen to reassure the woman she was friendly while inside, she prayed it wasn't obvious to notice her nerves.

This is the first time she had seen Miguel's house and his mother. She had no idea what Carmen's reaction and the rest of the family's reaction to her presence would be.
