Classes were finally over for the day, and I could return to my apartment and rest. "Obasuyi!" A voice called. It was Debbie.
"Hey girl" I smiled as she hugged me. "You were late for class again!" I giggled
"No be my fault, traffic dey" she said.
Translation: It wasn't my fault, there was traffic.
      "At least you're here now"
"Yeah... So what do plan on doing now?" Debbie asked.
"Ummm... Go to my house and sleep like the dead?" I said like I expected her to know. She pouted at my response.
"Where's Phoebe by the way?" I asked looking around the classroom. She was walking with her other friends. They didn't even let her say goodbye to me. I frowned.
"Well, guess it's just you and me now" Debbie said.
"You mean only you, I wanna go sleep" I yawned a little, packing my books into my tote bag.
"Just like that?" She asked surprised.
"What were you expecting?" I laughed. Just as I was about to leave, my phone rang. It was Victor again.
"Who's that?" Debbie asked nosing into my phone
"My boyfriend" I answered as casually as I could. "You get Man?!" Her eyes widened.
"Ahn ahn naw... Of course I get man, you know about him jor" I pouted. Translation: "You have a boyfriend?" (Exclamation) "Of course I have a boyfriend".
"Whatever u say" She winked and left.
"Hey babe" I answered, taking the call. "Hey baby what's up? You done with classes for today?"
"Yeah I am... You called at the right time" I giggled.
"I have something I want to tell you" He said, his voice was deeper than before. A sudden coldness entered my body.
"Oh... Okay. I hope nothing's wrong?" I questioned already worried.
"Well... I can't exactly say everything will be alright" He sighed. "Just message me when u get home okay?" He added.
"S... Sure" I said and cut the call.

I finally got home after the stressful day. The door was locked, meaning my roommate hadn't come back. Luckily I carried my key. I walked in and immediately went to shower. I was too tired to cook so I got something from our school's restaurant also know as BUKA. Just the usual Jollof rice with plantain and turkey. Turkey in this school is kinda seen as a rich people food choice. While I wouldn't exactly say I was rich, with my family being more comfortable than wealthy, I did work to make my own money. I was a face and nail model and also a writer.
After I took a shower, I jumped on my perfectly laid bed bouncing on it, allowing the coolness to sink into my skin. I'd almost fallen asleep when my tummy reminded me I was hungry.
"Time to eat" I sighed. I picked up my plate of rice, and put the first spoon in my mouth, making sure I savoured it. I hadn't eaten well that day. I was late for my 8am class in the morning so I just took a slice of bread, bought a doughnut in the afternoon and we finished by 5pm with no break in between.
Just as I was about to take more delight in my food, I received a message from Victor.
"Hey! Call me when you get home okay?"
Seeing that, I remembered what he told me earlier today, I body got numbed remembering his words. What would he want us to talk about? I wondered. I hope it's not to break up... But I haven't done anything wrong or have I? No! I have to think positive. Be positive Obasuyi! I battled with my thoughts for a little while. I lost my appetite for the food I'd craved just a few minutes ago. All because of wetin man tell me... Imagine. I haven't really talked much about me and Victor though. Well....
Victor and I had been dating for almost a year now. I met him before I entered school and we became official in my 200lv year. He was an engineering student in a different School, UNN (University of Nigeria, Nsuka), and about to graduate. Yes, it was a long distance relationship but we hung out whenever we were back home in Lagos. Even though we lived a bit far from each other there too, the distance had never cause such a strain in our relationship that a breakup loomed. We never fought or argued without forgiving each other, and we'd never had sex. So what was the problem??
My internal monologue still rambling, I summoned the courage to call him. After a few rings, each punctuated by my loud heartbeats, he finally picked up.
"Hey baby" He said softly. Hearing his charming voice, my anxiety went down.
"Hey boo, what's up?" I replied with the same tone.
"I'm good, just tired"
"Same here" I said. "So what did you want to tell me?" I said going straight to the point.
"Oh right... What I wanted to tell you" He sighed and made a few background noises. "What I'm about to say might upset you badly"
      My anxiety shot back up.
"Are u sure you want to hear it? You've done nothing wrong and I love you dearly"
"Awwwn... I love you too baby boy! I wanna hug you right now" I said cutely, squeezing my phone and blowing kisses. It was a good thing Eyinmisan wasn't around. She would have given me the side eye. LOL.
We both laughed over it. "Okay... Being serious now" He took a deep breath.
My smile faded away. "Obasuyi... I'm getting married"
My heart stopped
