Carmen
Josh and I move to Denver a few weeks after my graduation day. We find an apartment that would become our home and really matches our personalities. It's hard to explain to our friends but it makes sense once they see it. We stay engaged for two and a half years while we work out the other stuff in our lives. We finally get married on the three year anniversary of us getting together. That has to be the only truly good thing that Miranda did for me. Even if she was joking, it still led to this moment, so it's noteworthy. My mom walks me down the aisle since Carlos is locked up. I don't want him to do it anyway. I only picture him doing it in a world where he's involved in my life and didn't kidnap me. It's still a special day at a beautiful church.
We have the honeymoon in Cancun and don't want to leave by the end of it. Eventually, we do because we only booked the trip for a week. We return to our apartment and set our luggage down in the bedroom. We plop down on the couch. I rest my head on his shoulder and he holds me close.
"I can't believe you're my wife," he says for like the hundredth time since we got married.
I grin and turn my head to look at him.
"Well, believe it because I am your wife. I'm not going anywhere."
He smiles.
"I'll make sure of it."
"I know you will."
He kisses me.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
We keep cuddling on the couch and eventually fall asleep. I feel safe in his arms and know that we'll have a good life here.
