"Mel?" Derek asked as he entered the door of the loft. "In here." A female voice was heard along with a grunt. "What are you doing?" Derek asked as he hurried to the bedroom door way only to see the small dresser they had gotten delivered only a few days earlier, put together. "I couldn't wait any longer." Melody told him.

"Mel, you know the doctor already put you on medical leave from your job. It doesn't mean you can start building furniture." He told her, a stern look in his eyes. "Are you hurting any worse?" He asked.

"No, Derek, chill out. It was a dresser that had twenty pieces, one of which was a wrench the size of my palm. I think I can handle it. Plus, we can't keep her clothes in a box forever." Melody told her boyfriend and Derek looked over to the box of ever growing baby clothes, as his eyes found his girl friend rubbing her very prominent eight and a half month bump.

"I know you can do it, but you don't need to. Scott doesn't need me like he used to. I've got priorities now. A family." He told her as her eyes shined with love. "Are you getting mushy on me Hale?" She asked with a teasing smile and he pulled her into a side hug, kissing the side of her head as she gazed up at him lovingly.

"Only for you, and if you tell anyone that, I will deny it until the ends of the earth." He told her and she smiled patting his chest. "Keep telling your self that big guy. By the way, we got a new package delivered today." "What now?" "Her crib." Melody told him.

"Wanna put to together tonight. I might say I liked putting that dresser together, but it was hard. Plus I had to get on the floor. At this point, I didn't realize there was a floor." Melody joked and Derek laughed. "Yeah, we can put together tonight." "I'll get started on supper and you can look at the instructions." Melody told him as she waddled off to the kitchen. Derek watched her with a smile.

He never knew that he wanted a child, that he wanted to be a father until Melody had shown him the test. It was almost as if the void that had been there since the fire was starting to fill. He was creating his own family, one his mother would be proud of.

"Mel, what are you cooking?" Derek asked as a different scent hit his nose. "Mac and cheese pickle pizza." "Of course you are. Okay." He told her as he abandoned what he was doing joining Melody in the kitchen. Something didn't seem right, he could feel it. "What are you doing?" Melody asked as Derek came up next to her, rubbing her bump gently.

"Something doesn't feel right." He told her. "What do you mean? Like an intruder or something supernaturally bad?" "No." "Derek you're scaring me, what's going on?" She asked as she stopped what she was doing, only to freeze as she felt something run down her leg.

"Derek." She said softly, but he was too concentrated on trying to figure out what he was sensing. "Derek!" She said louder this time, the wolf spinning around to find her frozen. "What?" "She's coming." Melody said. "What? It's not time!" Derek panicked, his eyes wide. "She's coming and we're not ready." She said as her eyes filled with tears.

"What do you want me to do?" Derek asked as he too froze. "Grab the one thing I do have ready. Melissa helped me pack a hospital bag last week. Grab that, it's the cream colored bag by the bed. We need the car seat, the- the- god we need everything." She said panicked.

As Derek ran, grabbing the bag, Melody grabbed her phone, calling the nurse. "Melody, how are you?" Melissa asked as she picked up. "Freaking out a bit. My water just broke and I don't know what to do." "You're fine sweetheart. Have you been having contractions?" The nurse asked. "I had Braxton hicks last week, but since yesterday I've had really bad back pain."

"It depends on exactly how the baby is arranged in there on how the contractions hit. Have Derek bring you up with that bag we packed, and he can always run back. We've got you sweetie." Melissa told the younger woman and she smiled as she relaxed. "Thanks Mel, we'll see you in a few."

Melody turned to look at Derek, her eyes still wide, but more relaxed after speaking with the nurse. "Did you hear that?" She asked. "Yeah." He said as he stood there for a minute. "Mel, we're having a baby." "We're having a baby." She said softly as she leaned into him.
