Charlie Swan was known for two things. One being the Chief of police for the Small town of Forks, Washington, and second was that he was one of the towns most eligible bachelors.

Of course he came with his own little carry on baggage, but who in the small town didn't. His friends Waylon and Billy had tried to get the Swan to adventure into deeper waters, though he seemed to be content where he was.

His daughter was coming to live with him in a few months, his career was set, he fished when he wanted, and ate dinner at the diner on the other side of town twice a week. That was the enigma that was Charlie Swan.

So when he made his way into the small diner on Thursday, his day to get their special, steak and cobbler, he was surprised to see a new face.

Her slim frame was outlined in the yellow outfit all the diner personnel adored, her slightly frizzy red hair craved to be released from its confines as she had it placed in a bun on top of her head, a few curls peaking their way through. Her bright blue eyes seemed to take in every thing as they skimmed over her writing pad as she listened to the customer he was helping, writing down their order.

His eyes seemed to be attached to her, though when she turned to look at him, his heart seemed to skip a beat as she smiled. "I'll be right with ya." She told him, a thick southern accent adorning her words.

Running the ticket to the kitchen, she seemed to appear at the table side. "Can I get ya started with somethin' to drink?" She asked. "Just a glass of tea." He told her. "Sweet or unsweet?" "Sweet." He told her, forgetting she was new. "Of course. I'll have it out in a jif." She told him as she wondered off, filling a glass with sweet tea.

Bringing the glass back to the table, she smiled as she brought out her writing pad. "Are ya ready to order, or do you need a minute?" She asked as her head swiveled for a minute, hearing someone call her name. "Can I just get the steak dinner please?" He asked, not even needing the menu that was on the table. "You a regular?" She asked noticing the male not even glance at the menu.

"Every Tuesday and Thursday." A female voice said from behind her. The redhead smiled as Cora sat her hands on her shoulder. "This man here is our Chief of police. Chief Swan." Cora told her. "Chief huh? Does Chief Swan have a first name?" She asked. "Charlie." He told her, extending out his hand. "Marley." She said, a smile on her face as she shook his hand, "I'll get your order in Chief, and I'll have it out fast." She told him, excusing herself.

"Finally decided to get yourself some help, Cora?" He asked as his chocolate brown eyes followed the red head. "I did. She's good too. Only been here two days and this place runs better than it has in years." Cora chuckled. "Where's she from, because she not from here." He told her. "Kentucky, would you believe it?" Cora smiled as she saw Charlie's eyes follow her new hire. "No, I wouldn't if it wasn't for the accent." He said his eyes finding Cora's dark ones, but his cheeks turned pink at her smirk. "Those southern girls are something else Charlie. Trust me." She said patting his shoulder as she walked off to help another table.

Marley came to the table, a plate with his stake dinner in one hand and a fresh glass of tea in the other. "Here we are! Cora told me about the berry cobbler situation, so I'll bring it out in few minutes. Do you need anything else Charlie?" She asked him and his cheeks tinted pink, his confidence seeming to climb as the woman stood in front of him. "I could use someone to eat dinner with." He told her and her smile spread. "I may be able to remedy that. Just a moment." She told him as she hurried over to Cora, the woman's eyes widening as she glanced at the police chief.

Waving her off, Marley disappeared behind the swinging door to the kitchen. Coming back out with two plates of berry cobbler, she sat down on the side of the booth, setting the plates down. "I've got fifteen minutes Chief." She told him and Charlie looked at her surprised. "You're actually going to eat with me?" He asked. "Of course. When the chief of police asks for company, you can't refuse." She told him, the smallest bit of pink arising to her cheeks. "I didn't plan this far ahead." Charlie told her and Marley smiled at him, her blue eyes drinking up the man in front of her. "How about we just talk about our days?" She opted and he nodded. "Well..."

That was six months ago, and Charlie couldn't have been more thankful for his burst of confidence or Cora as he later found out she had a large hand to play with the current outcome.

A loud beeping came from his alarm clock, making the man stir from his sleep. "Turn it off." A voice mumbled from beside him. Glancing over all he truly saw was her unruly red curls as Marley's head was buried into his t shirt covered chest. "Charlie!" She groaned out as the beeping continued.

"Alright." He chuckled as he hit the button, stoping the obnoxious sound. "Thank you." She mumbled as she looked up at him, her blue eyes still sleep ridden. "Morning." He told her, leaning down kissing her lips. "Morning." She whispered as she kissed back, trying her hardest not to deepen it.

"When do you need to leave?" She asked him and he glanced over to the alarm. "In about an hour." He told her. "Okay." She said, getting up taking the top sheet with her to the bathroom down the hall. "Mar?" He asked as his eyes lingered on her frame before she disappeared around the door frame, trying not to focus on the clothes that were strewn around the room.

"I'll make you breakfast, then I gotta head home. I have a shift at two." She told him, her voice muffled from the walls and doors in between them. "You'll come and meet Bella tonight though won't you?" He asked. That was all he had ever wanted for his girls to meet.

"Of course I will. I wouldn't miss it." She said moving back into the bedroom, placing a kiss on his lips. "I'm gonna start on breakfast. Get dressed. Don't want to make her wait." Marley told him as she again disappeared out the door, him hearing her foot falls on the stairs.
