A week later
It had been a week since the reunion with everyone. My parents left to return to Eldorra yesterday, leaving me with Stella and Christian. I hear a knock on my new bedroom door and call out, "Come in!" Aunt Stella walks in and looks around the room, admiring my cleanliness and decorating skills.
"You sure unpack fast." She says.
"I just wanted to get it out of the way. When do I start school?"
"Tomorrow, do you need anything kiddo? Starting over can be hard, but we're all here for you. I am, Ava, Jules, Sofia, Dahlia, anyone. You have a lot of people who care about you; we want to make this transition as easy for you as possible." She says in a caring tone.
"No, I'm good for now. Thank you."
"Alright, sweetie, get some rest. Goodnight!" She says while walking out of my room.
"Night," I say as she shuts the door. I sit down on my bed and begin to text Sofia:
Camilla: Hey, you up?
I wait for a reply and almost get one instantly.
Sofia: yeah, what's up?
Camilla: I'm sorry we haven't been as close as we used to be. I hope that by going to the same school with us, that can change; I missed you.
I waited a few minutes for a response and finally got one
Sofia: we didn't grow apart. You were just too busy for your best friend like you texted me like once a fucking month. I'm going to bed
As I read the text, my heart hurts a bit as I know this is true. In Eldorra, I didn't have any friends, but I shut out the one person I used to call my best friend. I start typing again.
Camilla: I'll see you tmrw, goodnight
I shut off my phone for the night and get into bed. My mind has so many thoughts running through it at the moment. Will Sofia forgive me? Will I like school here? Did Nico always look so fucking hot? No, you don't have time for boys, especially not Nico, who's practically your family. Last week when he hugged me, I could feel how his body had changed his more muscular arms and torso, his more defined jawline, and god, his fucking hair. It was messy and brown and beautiful. Did he think I changed? Physically? Mentally? I doze off to bed with worries and Nico running through my head.
The next morning
I wake up to the smell of waffles and bacon; I hurry out of bed and quickly get dressed and do my hair and makeup. I sit on one of the stools at the kitchen island next to Dahlia. Christian is cooking breakfast, and Stella must have already left for work.
"Good morning, girls. Camilla, how'd you sleep last night?" Christian asks. He then starts plating some waffles and bacon onto two plates for Dahlia and me and hands the plates to us.
"I slept well. Thanks for the breakfast." He nods and begins to wash the pans he just used.
"I'm so excited you're staying with us for a while. I missed you!" Dahlia says. "Everyone else missed you too, and now we're all in the same school: you, me, Sofia, Nico, and Jaden. I'm so excited." She adds.
Later that day at school
Christian had driven Dahlia and me to school hours ago. I managed to find all my classes with Dahlia's help. I walk into the cafeteria and look around for anyone I know. I quickly spot Jaden and sit with him.
"Hey, Jayden! How've you been?"
"Fine, I guess." He says. He seems so different now, sadder. Dahlia and he are two years younger than me, but we are all friends despite this. I see Dahlia walking over, and she sits down next to me.
"Hey guys!" She says excitedly.
"Hey Lia, thanks for helping me find my classes earlier."
"No prob; let me know if you need anything else." She looked at Jaden and said, "Someone looks gloomy. Are you okay?" She asks Jaden with a concerned face.
Jaden sighs but starts to talk, "I've just been struggling in school a lot. Sofia used to tutor me, but well, you know.." He stops mid-sentence. Dahlia seems to know what she's talking about, but I don't.
"What's wrong with Sofia?" I ask.
Dalia blurts out, "Nothing, she's just a bitch," she points over to a table where Sofia and some other girls are sitting, "that's her bitch posse." Jaden and Dahlia laugh; I look at them, confused. Nico then starts walking towards our table and sits next to Jaden.
"What's so funny?" He asks.
Jaden says, "We're just telling Mila how Sof's a raging bitch." Nico looks upset that Jaden and Dahlia are talking about his sister this way, and he rolls his eyes.
"I told you guys to give her some space and stop calling her a bitch. She's my sister." Nico says defensively. Dahlia nods and looks a tad bit sorry.
"She's my cousin, and we all have our shit. She doesn't have to shut everyone out." Jaden argues.
"How about you stop acting like you know shit, Jaden?" Nico says, his face is bright red. He looks so mad right now.
"Guys, calm down, please."
"Yeah." Dahlia adds on. Jaden begins to stand up and walk away, and Dahlia chases after him. Nico and I are still sitting there; he looks overwhelmed and pissed off.
The bell rings, and both Nico and I stand up and don't say a word to each other. I think to myself: what the hell did I miss?
