It all happened so fast. One minute, we ate lunch; the next, Sofia was in a brawl in the cafeteria. After Niko and the other guy pulled Sofia and the girl apart, they got escorted to the principal's office. After school, Nico, Jaden, and I are in Nico's car, and he's dropping me and Jaden off at our houses like normal. Camilla had her car and had to go to the store anyway, so she didn't come with us. Jaden is in the back seat while I'm in the passenger side beside Nico. We all sit in silence for a bit. I pretend to be watching the road, but I'm glancing at Nico. I knew I never had a chance with him, but he's only gotten hotter with age. Our parents used to think it was adorable how I had a crush on him, but the feelings have only grown. I love the way his brown hair is always messy but in a perfect way, and his perfect brown eyes are just so well..perfect.

"Someone recorded the fight; it's got tons of views already!" Jaden interrupts, and it startles me; I was so deep into thought about Nico.

"Turn that off," Nico says. Jaden turns off the video and puts his phone into his pocket. "Not everything is funny, Jaden, especially nothing involving Sof."

"Is she ok?.." I add hesitantly.

"I.." Nico pauses. "No."

"Is it her insomnia?"

Nico sighs. "Yeah, probably."

We pull up to Jaden's house, and he gets out of the car. We wave goodbye, and Nico and I drive to my house. I tap on the stereo and change the channels. Nico is okay with when I do this. I stopped at a radio station playing "Cruel Summer"  by Taylor Swift. I start humming along to the song's tune, and I hear Niko chuckle to himself.

"What?"

"Nothing, it's cute; you're one of those little swifties." He says with a grin as he keeps driving.

"Oh, c'mon, you're not fooling anyone; you are too," I chuckle. The bridge starts coming on, and I start singing it. "I'm drunk in the back of the car! And I cried like a baby coming home from the bar!" I smile when I hear Nico reluctantly sing the "oh" part. A few minutes later, we pull up to my house; I unbuckle my seatbelt and look at him. "Thanks for the ride."

"Don't thank me, Lia; I love car karaoke with you." He says with a smile on his face. His perfectly white teeth and dimples are visible. I can't help myself; I get caught up in the moment and lean forward to kiss him. Our lips touched, and it was my first kiss with the boy I'd liked for years, one of my best friends. He pulls away. "Lia, what the hell?"

"I-I-.." I leave his car and shut the door, forgetting my backpack. What the hell was I thinking?
