Despite the tiredness, Zaid couldn't sleep. His eyes were heavy but the thought of sleep was far away from his mind. His heart pounded in his ears restlessly. Zaid couldn't help but look down at her, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear with a gentle touch. His hand moved to cup her cheek, stroking with tenderness. He couldn't help but smile slightly despite the pain and fear that hung over him like a dark heavy cloud that refused to lift. Then his hand moved to her beautiful eyes which were closed and he felt a pang in his heart. A tear trailed down his right cheek and fell on her cheek but he cared less. His fingers caressed her eyes rather gently, his touch hesitant but tender. Then his hand moved towards the bridge of her nose gently running his fingers over it, caressing it, marvelling the softness of her skin. He wondered what would have been her reaction if she was awake? Will she push him away? Will she pretended to sleep? Or will she be be shocked or surprised? Or will she just run away? He couldn't help but imagine the scenarios.
He shook his head and continued his tender exploration, hands moving to her cheeks, gently caressing them with a tenderness that was like a tender breeze. He smiled at her rather painfully.
Please wake up.
He pleaded, his voice carrying the weight of his anguish.
Zaid looked at the clock as it stricked 3 am.
Bhai jaan.
Haya entered inside the room. Zaid looked up at Haya feeling her watchful gaze on him.
Kuch kha lijiye.
Haya said, her voice a soft whisper breaking the silence in the room.
She sat beside him with a food plate in her hand.
Bhook nahin hai.
Zaid said, his voice barely above a whisper, filled with depression.
Haya placed the food plate on the table and reached out, cradling his cheek. Her eyes brimming with love and pain.
Bhai please kha lijiye. Aapki tabiyat kharab ho jayegi.
Haya spoke, her voice a mixture of pain and worry.
Nahin Haya ek niwala bhi halak se nahin utrega mere.
These words trembled out of his mouth before he could stop them. He looked almost dead like someone has sucked his soul out of him.
A mixture of pain and greif flooded through Haya,s heart hearing him. She stared at Mubashira reaching out to caress the back of her palm, a tear rolled up on her cheek as she said, her voice quivered slightly with pain
Bhabhi bahot strong hai. She'll be fine.
In a desperate attempt to provide some comfort to Zaid, Haya reached out and hugged him, stroking his back as tears fell from her eyes.
Kyun kiya usne aisa Haya?
Zaid found himself asking her, it was a faint whisper, chocked but he assumed that she heard him as he heard a chocked bhai from her and then she pulled away from the hug.
Bhai bhabhi is strong but sometimes even the strongest person breaks down and it's brutal.
Haya said cupping his face, stroking his right cheek with tenderness.
I can't see her like this.
Zaid found himself murmuring, a bitter taste filled his mouth as he recalled her words and then her falling limp into his arms.
