The Island

My bed is an island
Floating out at sea
Dark waters all around me
So dark and suffocating

I look to the horizon
Searching for distant land
I see nothing save for sky
Stretched like a gaping wound overhead

I scream into the silence
Screaming, "help me"
But my bed is an island
An island in the sea
With dark and churning water
Spitting up at me

Alone on this island
With no one to talk to me
My mind splits up into multiple personalities
One voice among them all
Can be heard crystal clear
This voice is no albatross
It is one I should fear

This voice weighs on my shoulder
Occupies my mind
Constricts my heart in my chest
Time after time

"Look to the water,
It's so inviting.
Someone like you should be glad of that embrace."

"The waters will wash away all of your memories.
It'll caress you like a lover,
A lover you wish you had."

"It beckons you so sweetly,
Dear child of mine.
Fall into the water,
Tell me what you see."

"Do the demons come and haunt you?
Does you past anchor you down?
And when you reach the bottom what will you find?"

"Broken pieces of a girl that will never touch the light?
Buried so far under dark waters,
There are no treasures here you see."

"Jump into the water or stay here with me."
