A familiar nickname shakes down the servant walls.
"FROG!"
My name. I raced through possibilities of what I've managed to screw up this time. It couldn't of been the mopping, I checked that 3 times before finishing. Maybe it was the cooking, but all I did was place it on the dinner tables.
That's when I looked down to puddles forming around my feet.
"Oh no." I mumbled to myself as I walked into the kitchen. The wash sink was overflowing, I had forgotten to clear the food from the drain.
"I'm so sorry, sir! I really did forget this time!" I pleaded, the other servants standing around us glaring.
"THIS IS IT! NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU'RE TOLD. YOU STILL SCREW UP!" Dan was butler and let me tell you. He took that job seriously.
He was a taller man, around 6ft 2 with a plump build, bald head and stubbled beard. He always wore a freshly pressed black suit and tie. And he was a right dickhead.
"It won't happen again Sir."
He pinched my ear dragging me up towards his face "extra chores," he chucked me back "for all of you!"
Groans filled the room, Melissa glaring at me. She was the biggest but prettiest bitch of all, her dark brunette hair complemented her green eyes perfectly. She wore the same servant attire as all the rest. A plain steamed white top with black trousers and an apron that snatched her waist.
"Tara and Christopher, I want the dining room and ball room cleared and cleaned. Melissa, Dareth and Albert sort this mess out." He turned to me "and Toad, deep clean the guest rooms 109B to 130B."
"The night crew will also be on duty aiding all of you, except Frog." He finished.
My heart sank. That will take all night! And then I'm on duty again at 6AM! What a joke. And Toad? how could they make Frog even more deemening.
Tommorow was Prince Alexander's 20th birthday, this meant guests where on their way. It was currently 5PM, that meant I had around 3 hours to clean 30 rooms.
Oh and the spiders! The rooms are only used on major events, in the mean time spiders adore the rooms in every corner.
I shivered and sighed stumbling up stairs and out of the servant quarters, "right, find room 109. 106, 107, 108. Ah.." there were 2 guards standing outside argueing to another servant, that was strange. Gaurds only stood outside of royal rooms. Oh well maybe they were just chatting.
I slowly walked up with my bucket and mop entering the room with the door slowly falling closed after.
My eyes widened, the room was rimmed by gold linings, matching the the deep set wooden bed frame. The room was huge, behind the gold was painted light cream. The windows were covered with a dark rouge curtains that fell to the dark wooden floor. The usual furniture laid out across the room all matching that brown wood.
This was not the right room.
"Who are you?!" A red head screeched, her curls bouncing as she swung her head towards me. She matched with the curtains, the velvet dark red making a beautiful dress.
She leaned against the dark oak stained bed pillars, fabric connecting each corner of the bed by these.
My gaze wondered to the figure next to her, I fell to one knee and closing my eyes tightly "My Prince!" Panic spread throughout my chest.
"Get up slave, what is your name?!" The lady shouted.
Like I'm going to give her that, my one chance of covering this up from a lifetime of chores from Dan.
I swalled my stress and slowly rose "my name.. uh. My name...M..Melissa?" She scoffed, arms now crossed.
I glanced at the Prince, a quiet smirk laid on his lips. He really was striking, his blonde slightly curled hair set on his head and his dark hazel eyes pierced through me. He wore a tightly fit green suit with brown dress shoes.
The lady opened her mouth to dismiss the clear cover up, but Prince Alexander began instead "you're free to go," before he could say anything more I raced out the room, my heart pounding.
"HEY YOU!" A gaurd grabbed my shoulder "What were you doi-"
"You forgot your bucket" the Prince hung out the door holding the bucket and mop out to me.
"Shit," I gasped, hands flying to my mouth "I am so sorry." And fell into a bow once again.
A hearty laugh travelled through the air. A single finger settling under my chin, pushing my head up to look at him.
"Frog right?" He smiled, a blush set firmly on my face. All I could do was nod, "I've heard about you, didn't you set fire to my kitchen once?"
A nervous smile fell on my face as his finger put more pressure on my chin to rise, as I did he let his hand fall back to his side.
"Ah... ha yeahhhhh," I raised my hands "in my defence Albert had put me in charge of cooking that salmon." I turned to look up challenging "you know what, he definitely done that on purpose!"
I stare back at him the same smile still present, only slightly bigger now. "Sorry." I say looking down.
"Stop apologising, the 'rumoured' storys of you are quite entertaining."
A questioned smile sets on my face, he really is as kind as others say.
Thudded footsteps crack down the halls "FROG!!!" Oh no.
I wince, the Prince and gaurds all staring at the large man storming towards us.
"WHY ARE YOU ON THIS LEVEL! I SAID B NOT A!!" His face was red, veins popping out.
I slowly began to back up until one of the guards grabbed the scruff of my clothes and pushed me forward. Right into Dan's path.
A rough hand grabbed my ear, a glare was sent my way as he then turned towards the Prince with a small bow. Dragging my head down with him. "My apologies your highness, I hope he didn't bother you too much."
The prince looked at him with slight disgust, then to me. My eyes went to the floor. "Of course not, in-fact I would like to formally invite him to the party tomorrow. Give him the day off to prepare." The lady joined behind him, a gasp coming from all surrounding.
"A-are you su-" Dan stopped, "Yes, Your highness" He turned to leave with a quick bow before.
I hopped along after, his grip still stinging my ear. My head turned back gazing towards the Prince now standing and staring at me.
What a nice guy.
