set fire to the rain
•.° *. •°.* •°it had been almost a whole year that you and mattheo riddle had been a couple. your one year anniversary was approaching and you were over the moon.
but you've recently began to notice some things about him.
before becoming a couple, it was like he saved you. you hadn't been in the place in life and it felt as if the moment he kissed your lips, he saved you.
things had been so great, but there was a side to mattheo that you never knew until recently.
he'd say he was too busy to hang out or too tired but then you'd catch him in his lie. you would either find him at some sort of party or hangout with this his group of friends, or he would be off with some other friends smoking or sneaking out.
you already knew that mattheo wasn't a star student or perfectly behaved kid before you got together. his world was so different to yours and you fell into him happily. because you fell into it with him.
it was different now.
mattheo didn't only begin to lie, but he also started to play games with you that he would always win. you weren't much of an instigator so you preferred to let it pass over and only hoped things would go back to normal.
your friends told you that it seemed toxic but you just couldn't leave him. not when he helped build you up when you were falling apart. you felt like you owed it to him to stay.
what if he was going through a rough time like you were in before? you always argued. in your mind, it was best to let him come to you when he felt okay to talk about whatever was wrong.
even if your friends said this was what mattheo always did. with every girlfriend he's had, he always did this.
you didn't want to believe it. you wanted to believe he was different, for you.
there were nights were you felt like things would change. when he laid with you and you felt like you could stay there forever. like you could close your eyes, and feel him with you forever.
"you and me together, nothing is better." he liked to say on those nights.
it was a few days before your one year anniversary, and there was a ravenclaw party. you were currently in your dorm and looking at your appearance in the mirror.
you looked so different from how you used to look before mattheo.
your fingers trailed the material of your red mini dress which was an out of the box purchase you made. normally, you wouldn't wear a dress that was so short and low cut, not to mention tight, but mattheo liked it.
taking in your appearance, you realized how your makeup style had also changed to seem more dark feminine like with the smoky eye you sported.
your hair was also very different. you used to always put it in some nice style to keep your hair out of your face, but you had cut it shorter and now wore it more messily.
the jewelry you wore and other small things about yourself like your nails, your shoes, even your purse was different.
as you stared into the reflection of your own eyes, you couldn't help but feel as if you were staring at someone else. this didn't feel like you.
