"Dear reader get out your map, pick somewhere and just run"Beneath the moonlit sky, Eden's hurried footsteps seeking refuge from the nightmares she's had to endure. Her golden blonde hair fluttered behind her as she ran through the small town. The echoes of her father's anger followed her like ghostly whispers as she turned a dimly lit corner.
Turning a street and marveling at the beauty of the night. Her thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice.
"I'll see you tomorrow then?" She could hear her dad asks. Eden froze for a small second. Terrified what would happen to her. Adrenaline pumped through her tiny body as she started sprinting through the street, still clinging to her small brown bear. She ran. She ran until she found a large house. Bigger then she had seen before. She stared at it quickly before spotting an open window. Eden, driven by instinct, squeezed through the narrow gap. She landed on the windowsill on the inside of the room. Her hands trembling, and her eyes scanning where she was.
Where she had escaped from her dad was unlike any place she'd seen. It was beautiful, homey, and big. Those were the words Eden would use to describe it.
She could see a large fireplace, and soft couches. One of which she was basically sitting on top of. She heard some movement from the other side of the house. Carefully she wedged herself in between the couch and the window, hugging her bear to her chest, desperate to not be seen.
Eden could see a blonde woman come into the room. She was pretty, very pretty. Eden was sure she recognized her from somewhere but couldn't quite place where yet.
"Liv?" The blonde lady called.
Like magic Eden could see a whiteish cat appear meowing at the woman. The cat, walked to the couch Eden was just hiding behind basically motioning for her owner to come. If the blonde was smart, she would follow the cat. Eden prayed she wasn't.
The blonde started to follow her cat over to the couch. Eden was basically holding her breath terrified of the repercussions that would come from the lady and then from her father.
"What do you want Oliva?" She said stroking the cat's fur. Olivia, what Edem assumed her name was, started purring contently. She then walking on the edge of the couch crawled down to the same spot Eden was in and started meowing at her.
Eden unsure what to do crawled further away from the creature that would basically hand her to hell.
"Olivia, I keep telling you don't go back- there" She paused as she saw Eden.
Eden just sat there with a blank expression. She was so scared. Scared the blonde would hit her. Even more terrified she would go back to her dad.
Concern etched across the blonde's face as she gazed at all the injuries Eden had. She then knelt down, her soft voice breaking the silence. "Hey there, what happened? Why are you here?"
Eden, her eyes still clouded with fear, hesitated before sharing a small fragment of her painful story. She couldn't trust anyone.
"I-I had to run away. It's not safe at home," she managed to utter, her gaze darting nervously around the unfamiliar surroundings.
In response, the blonde extended a gentle hand, offering comfort. "You're safe here. No one will hurt you," she reassured, her voice a soothing balm for Eden's wounded soul. Eden quickly flinched back at the sight of a hand coming toward her.
Haunted by her delicate past, Eden hesitated, her vulnerability laid bare. "I-I can't trust anyone. Please don't hurt me," she whispered, fear clinging to her words. She hugged the bear tightly, holding onto the only sense of comfort she had.
