Confusion

"If the shoe fits walk in it till your high heels break,"

Taylor gently shook Eden awake. Her eyelashes fluttered as she slowly blinked, disoriented for a moment before recognition dawned in her eyes.

"Hey, sweetheart," Taylor whispered, brushing a stray lock of hair from her forehead. "It's time to wake up we have people here to see you."

As Eden stirred, she was worried, worried about her dad, worried she would be taken away from the first place she'd ever felt somewhat safe.

Eden stayed quiet still in a sleepy state as Taylor stroked her blonde hair. A knock at the door startled both of them, making Eden shiver. With a frown, Taylor rose from the bed, asking eden if she would like to be held. Nodding her head slightly she felt the blonde reach down a bring her into the safeness Eden felt while in her arms.

Eden was scared, she didn't know why Taylor made her feel safe, or why she felt so comfortable in her arms. She didn't know why she was terrified of the inevitable fate of her getting taken away.

As Taylor made her way down the steps she could feel Eden's heart beating against her chest.

As she opened the front door standing on the other side was a man and a woman from Child Protective Services, their expressions solemn as they greeted them shaking hands with Taylor.

"Hello Ms. Swift, I'm Alex," the woman said stepping inside a clipboard in her hand as she held a green folder.

Eden knew what that green folder was almost immediately and dreaded what they would say when they read it. She'd been taken away from her dad once her mom had died. She'd stayed in a foster home until they made sure her father was "better".

"Taylors fine, nice to meet you." Taylor replied kindly, even though she felt it was anything but nice. She let them in closing the door behind her as she led them to the living room, Eden still in her arms.

She could feel Eden trembling in her arms looking at the two individuals up and down as if committing their features to memory. Which of course she was. Taylor traced circles on her back, as Eden laid her head on Taylor's shoulder shielding herself from the gaze of the unfamiliar people.

"We can take her now if that would be easier to do," Alex said standing across from Taylor, looking at her phone.

"But the easiest option seeing you already have a foster license would be to keep her here until we can bring her to a placement."

"No, no it's fine she can be with me," Taylor responded quickly, feeling Eden's hands grabbing onto her shirt.

"Perfect, do you think we could talk for a second." Alex replied.

"Yeah that's fine, Eden do you want to go down for second while I talk to Ms. Alex," she said to the little girl.

Eden violently shook her head burying her face into the only slightly familiar other than the bear that was slowly falling from her hand.

She didn't want to be left alone with anyone. She only wanted to be with Taylor if she had to be with anyone. She especially didn't want to be alone with a man. Someone who triggered memories best left untouched.

"Sweetheart, I have to go talk with Alex," she murmured into Eden's ear.

"No don't leave me please." She said quietly grabbing onto Taylor's shirt.

Taylor wondered why the little girl was being so insistent in staying with her. She didn't mind at all, the feeling made her heart flutter in a way she's never felt before. She just wondered what had made Eden trust her.
