I got ready had a shower got dressed and did my hair.

I went to the kitchen where me and mum had scones with jam and heated up leftover boil up that she had in the fridge from a couple days ago that we hadn't eaten because we ate food from the tangi.

She made me and her a tea and we went through old pictures in an album she pulled out.

"look it's you" mum said pointing at a photo of me as a baby with a sunflower bonnet and matching sunflower crocheted top and pants.

"it is mee" I said looking at the photo, I was adorable.

" and look at that, that's a photo with your uncle mike before he passed away"

Uncle mike my mums brother – I could barely remember him because I was so young when he was alive but had heard he was kind and had a big heart for people.

"and there's you with you father"

I smiled it'd been a while since I'd visited my dad, my mum had me while they were dating and they never got married and when they split up, I went to live with my mum. I used to visit him every holidays when he still lived in New Zealand but then he moved to England and it got harder and more expensive for either of us to visit eachother. We'd grown distant since then and even though I lived in America so it'd be easier to visit him we both hadn't really reached out to each other. I missed him.

He looked so young in the photo with me, if I remembered correctly he was 23 when I was born. We had the same hazel eyes, dark brown hair and bright smile.

I never understood why my mum and dad had broken up, I remembered my mum saying something about how they were just at the end of the day different people and had drifted apart. I often wondered if mum still loved him or the other way round and if they did why they couldn't have worked past things and stayed together.

I got a text from Mattias asking if he could video call me while my mum flicked through the rest of the photo album. I replied yes.

"Hey" said Mattias smiling at me through my phone. He was wearing a white hoodie that somehow brought out his green eyes.

"Hey" I smiled back butterflies still filled my stomach every time he smiled at me and I got giddy. I was so lucky to have found someone like him and if getting excited and flushed over a guy everyday isn't love I don't know what is.

"How's it being back so far?" said Mattias

"it's good, just helping out at the marae has been good and getting to sit in on the tangi helps me feel connected to my maori side which I was missing out on"

"that's good , I'm glad... did you make any friends?"

My mind flicked to Angelo

I shook my head "No"

" Oh well, I think you'll probably make some soon"

"What about you? How's work?"

He smiled big " We won a big case – Mare it's worth millions"

" Are you serious?"

"Yes"

I didn't know how to react, yes we lived comfortably but I'd never thought about possibly becoming millionaires, I wasn't prepared.

" if the case is worth millions how much do we get from it?"

" 5 million"

I didn't know what to say

"where do you want to vacation in, I'll book it, Paris?"

" maybe"

"Milan?"
