just to keep the promise i'd made to you
╚════ ·🌹· ═╝Taehyung's jaw was taut as he stared at the horizon, his eyes focused on nothing in particular as thoughts muddled with his mind.
Silence lingered around them all throughout the ride. Jaein had once looked at him-the moment they entered the car after a draining yet awkward photo session. Her gaze was met with his polished, angular visage. Taehyung didn't spare a glance at her. Jaein brushed him off and decided to look at the other side instead.
The white Rolls-Royce sped past the other vehicles on the highway, determined to carry the newlyweds to their soon-to-be shared home.
About twenty minutes later, the car took a gentle curve, and the view of a gigantic mansion slid into her vision, standing proud and alone at the centre of a vast property bordered by high compound walls, towering trees, and shrubbery on all sides. A massive fountain was situated towards the front of it, several metres away from the long porch.
As soon as the chauffeur pulled over at the porch, Taehyung climbed out of the car and strode hastily inside the mansion, not bothering to wait or open the door for the woman he had just put a ring on.
The wedding gown was heavy, and the five-inch heels she wore were killing her feet. Jaein could feel the silky material of the gown sticking to the clammy skin of her back, even in a well-conditioned car. She let out a frustrated huff.
"Could've been a gentleman and at least opened the door for me," Jaein muttered under her breath, glaring at Taehyung's retreating figure and pulling out the hem of her gown that was trapped underneath her heels. The chauffeur hurried out of the car and immediately opened the door for her, as if he heard her grumbling.
Jaein mumbled a soft 'thank you' and smiled tenderly at the kind man who replied to her with a polite bow. She then carefully stepped out while the chauffeur unloaded her baggage from the car's boot.
The woman paused a little away from the perron and took in the extensive, white walls of the three-story building standing over her. Apart from the areas where the driveway and the fountain were located, the ground below was covered in a mushy green mat of grass, slightly wet from the afternoon October rains.
Entering inside, Jaein was astounded at its grandeur. Warm, orange light poured from above, welcoming her with open arms. The colossal living room was lavish with plush, cream sofas neatly positioned in front of a massive television mounted on the opposite wall and a huge chandelier hanging from the double-height ceiling. The room extended to the other side of the mansion, where the walls were replaced with long glass panels lining from top to bottom, beyond which the backyard began.
The mansion was elegant from the outside and splendid from the inside, but the pin-drop silence inside was suffocating.
How will I survive in a place as silent as this?!
