Jaein glanced at her watch as she entered the elevator.

It was almost three hours past noon. Layla had offered her a scrumptious lunch, but she denied it. The apple she'd munched on in the morning served as her only food for the day.

She'd taken a day off from university, allowing herself ample time to absorb the reality that she got married to a stranger, separated from her family, relocated to a new mansion, and bore someone else's last name. From a Park to a Kim.

What the hell?

How did she let it happen? Had she been a little stubborn, maybe, just maybe, she could've avoided this marriage. But the damage was already done.

Last night could be the worst of sleepless nights Jaein had ever encountered. No amount of listening to calming sounds or snuggling into the fluffy pillows helped her. Eventually, her restless mind took her to the balcony. Nights seldom scared her unless they hid threats from her past in the guise of earth-shattering thunders.

The dreariness of being lonely gorged her heart. Nothing here belonged to her. Not even her own husband. She was trapped in a foreign place with unknown faces surrounding her.

Her muscles had eased as the cool winds offered an odd solace amidst the turmoil. For that brief minute, she'd forgotten about the new wire that warped her life-until that particular event happened. It deprived her of sleep. God. She didn't want to ponder at the moment.

The elevator dinged, jolting Jaein out of her memories. It was better not to dwell there and send her heart into a tumult. The metallic doors slid open, revealing the mansion's basement, where the garage was located.

Jaein gasped.

She stepped out of the elevator. Sleek white ceiling panels stretched above Taehyung's vast car collection. The sparkling white floor reflected the golden and white LED lights illuminating the enormous hall.

Jaein's mouth remained open, her eyes flitting across the supercars and hypecars positioned on either side of the centre pathway. The area housed at least twenty cars, nearly all of them sports models. From cabriolets to roadsters. From Bugattis to Paganis. A few Koenigseggs and Hennessys as well. A couple of them had bodies made entirely of carbon fibre. Jaein wondered if the man had an intense craze for high-end vehicles.

"Good afternoon, Mrs Kim. How may I help you?"

Jaein flinched at the sudden voice.

A man presumably in his late thirties stood behind her with a polite smile. He was dressed in all black with a black hat, giving away his profession as a chauffeur. Jaein returned a tight one as she recalled the way the man addressed her as 'Mrs Kim;' however, she didn't bother correcting him.
