Early November had graced them with the waning vibrance of autumn. Late November melted into the beginning of a dry winter. The winds grew frigid, as if each gust was knotted with thorns designed to pierce skin.

Jaein adjusted the scarf around her neck as she strolled towards her car.

"No, you don't have to. I can drive myself. Just send me the location," she replied, her phone wedged between her ear and her shoulder.

"Alright." Jimin chuckled from the other end. "I keep forgetting you're all grown up."

Her lips formed a subtle pout. She missed her family. Terribly. "I'll be there."

Jaein revved up the engine and drove out of the university parking lot. As asked, Jimin dropped the pin to Grand Caramond, the luxurious resort where her family waited for her arrival.

"It's been so long. How have you been, sweetie?" Aejung embraced her daughter and kissed her on the cheek as soon as Jaein showed up.

And so their family dinner began.

Somewhere along the line, her parents asked her about her marital life. Jaein dodged the questions with the excuse of preparation for her semester exams. It was true because she was so preoccupied with the preparations that she hardly had time to think about her marriage. Her parents already had a lot on their plates with all the business crises they faced over the months. She didn't want to give them another headache by disclosing her defective marriage.

The parents left after spending an hour with their children as a happy family and feasting on exquisite cuisines. Jaein stayed back with Jimin, talking about life, Taehyung and everything in between.

"A separate room? That's ridiculous." Jimin couldn't believe his ears.

"Yeah," Jaein sighed, mindlessly twisting the glass straw in the jar. "I never even saw him after the night of reception."

Jimin shook his head. "You need to talk to him, Muffin. Ask him why he's treating you like this."

"I'm fine with it as long as he isn't bothering me."

"How long are you gonna stay like this? It's been a month already."

Jaein didn't have an answer to that question.

"See," Jimin started, "if he doesn't want to build this relationship with you, it's better to part ways before things become too complicated. You could fully focus on your career, and he can do whatever he likes."

Jaein nodded, but her mind was hazy. Unsure.

"This is your prime age for dating and exploring. A dysfunctional marriage will stop you from enjoying life. You two gotta come to a mutual agreement regarding it," Jimin suggested. "Talk with him."
