Knock, knock, knock
"Lizzie? Paige? Time to get up, girls! You don't want to be late for school."
Elizabeth Ashler or Lizzie as she was known to most who knew her let out a low groan as she stretched slightly.
She then carefully peeled herself away from where she'd been curled around the smaller body of her younger sister Paige.
The seven-year-old had come into the teen's bedroom the previous night after yet another nightmare about their late father and had ended up sleeping in her bed with her for the remainder of the night.
Unlike most girls her age would probably be, Lizzie wasn't at all bothered by her little sister wanting to sleep in her bed with her.
The pair along with their brother Jasper who currently lived in a different foster home a few blocks from them had lived through hell prior to their father's passing due to alcohol poisoning.
Paige had spent her fair share of nights seeking comfort from either of her older siblings back then and she still did so with her big sister now.
Pressing a soft kiss against her little sister's blonde hair that was identical to her own, the fifteen-year-old then made her way into their shared bathroom and turned the shower on, deciding to brush her teeth while she waited for the water to get warm.
After doing exactly that, Lizzie checked the temperature of the water and upon being satisfied with it, peeled off her pajamas and stepped inside the shower.
After washing her hair and body as well as taking care of shaving her legs, Lizzie dried off before wrapping her towel around her body and stepping out of the shower.
Paige had woken up during her shower and entered the bathroom.
Still dressed in her own pajamas, she was standing on the small step stool that their foster mother had provided for her in the process of washing her face after which she would brush her teeth as she did every morning.
"Make sure you get behind your ears real good, munchkin."
Paige rolled her brown eyes playfully at her older sister's remark before making a silly face at her in the mirror, causing the former to laugh.
Despite the age difference between the two sisters, the pair had always been extremely close.
Making her way back into her room, Lizzie quickly found what she wanted to wear that day and got dressed.
