Christie's POV
"Hmmm" a voice escaped my throat as I was waking up from a weird dream I had the night before. I try to remember it but nothing comes in my mind.
I open my eyes and saw the brown gothic ceiling quite unfamiliar to me. For a second, I thought I might be still dreaming. I sat up and looked around for water on the bedside table. As I was drinking the water I realized how we traveled yesterday and reached Ray's house. I guess I have to go down and see what I have to do today.
I moved out of bed and to the bathroom to freshen up. I just couldn't get my head wrapped around how last week I was going to school, trying to make my place there with the cool and popular group, just because Charlie was one of them. And now I am here in an unknown place, among strangers and with a heavy responsibility that I have no clue about. When I was done brushing my teeth, still in my thoughts, I tried to visualize how I felt when I stopped spoons that Ray accidently levitated.
As soon as I opened my eyes I could see unfamiliar grey eyes looking back at me in the mirror. I looked at my left hands' fingertips, mystical and faint golden light was shining through them. My fingertips did felt like it was touching the air around it. The sensation was similar to how a soft mink blanket feels when we brush our fingers on top of it. It was kind of tingly and warm. I let go of the anxiety I was feeling building up between my eyebrows and let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. The tingly feeling and the grey eyes went away.
Ha, I guess there is no escaping this. I just hope I don't end up hurting anyone this time. I hope I don't end up ruining everything as I did last week at the party.
I am glad Paris and Chance are here. I still don't feel good about any of this but I guess of they both are here I can go through with this mess. I wish I can just run away far away from here where no one can find me.
I went down and saw Chance already making coffee in the kitchen.
"Hey, good morning," he said, smiling slightly.
"Good morning. What are you making?' I replied smiling back. He turned around to get something from the counter behind him and I noticed the cute bed head hair at the back of his head. I guess I shouldn't point that out. Chance get self-conscious too quickly and don't want him to get awkward around me.
"I made coffee for you too. Here." He said as he handed me a red Christmas cup with dark coffee.
"Oh, thanks. I... I am glad you are here, Chance." I felt the warm coffee steaming through the cup as I touched the cup with both hands. It felt good to feel something. The dark brown hue in the cup felt oddly comforting. "I didn't get any chance to talk about anything since last week. And the thing is that I am not doing okay. I let go... of something at the party. And I think I have lost something precious to me but the truth is I don't remember some things from the party. I think I had done something terrible that night." As I finished confessing, I looked up at him from my cup of coffee. His eyes were searching mine for something and he finally asked after a few seconds, "Do you really not what actually happened that night?"
"I remember how I reached the party. I remember I was with Charlie. And then I remember that I was sitting outside his home at the stairs when Ray found me." I replied, honestly.
"Don't you remember what you said to Angie when she was talking to Charlie?" He asked, again.
"Angie was there? I really don't remember that. What did I say?" I asked, realizing there was a sinking in my stomach. I just know that his next reply would be something I wouldn't like hearing.
"I don't know what you said to her. I was away from the three of you, Angie, Charlie and you. But after you said something to Angie, she started crying and screaming and curled up on the floor as if she was in a great deal of pain. And you were..." Chance stopped without finishing his thought.
"And I what?' I almost screamed impatiently at him.
"You were kind of standing above her and smiling really scarily. You were smiling as if you were enjoying seeing her... in pain... on the floor." Regret creeped up on his face as soon as he finished speaking.
"I... did... that?" I asked, my voice and hands shaking. I clenched the warm cup in my head, not caring how hot it was. The warmth in my head was the only thing holding me to the reality.
"I really don't know exactly what happened between you three but that was what everyone saw at the party." He added.
"Everyone saw?" I asked emphasizing on 'everyone'.
"Yeah, everyone. It was kind of hard to miss with how hard Angie was screaming." Chance said.
I didn't know what to do after hearing this. I felt bad. I felt like I was a bad person. Not because of the incident or because of the gaps in my memory or that everyone saw that scene. I felt bad because I now know that what I feared was true. That I did hurt someone. The more shocking revelation was that I felt good while doing that.
