2008.Eight-year-old Rowan always imagined having friends in school. Her sisters were her friends but it was different. Rowan wanted to make friends on her own and of her age. After spending all of her first grade being homeschooled by Micheal and Dana, she finally got to start regular school. She was overall excited to meet other kids and be around her teachers. As much as it wasn't her focus at the moment, she enjoyed school and she liked learning new things.
It was her third day and it was going well for Rowan, she had somewhat nice classmates except for a few kids and she was doing very well with her curriculum. She is a very smart little girl and always seems to excel in everything she did so Micheal and Dana are not worried about Rowan.
Rowan wrote down her time's table, it was a ten-minute test and she was finished within two minutes. She sat down on her pencil making her teacher Ms. Lola's eyes drift to the girl, the older woman smiled softly and she picked up Rowan's test.
One of Rowan's classmates, Samantha glared at Rowan from across the room. Rowan smiled to herself, an even paying attention to Samantha at all.
The second person who finished was an Asian kid named Atsura Saito. He was the meanest boy of their entire grade and he liked no one, he had no friends and he always hit people who got on his nerves. Atsura huffed as he looked around and Rowan stared at the boy with a buzzcut, he had a scar under his eyes and had his Pokemon cards in his hand. Her sister, Penelope told Rowan to stay out of Atsura way and so far Rowan has done a good job of doing that.
The test was now over and it was finally recess which was the lonely hour for Rowan because her sisters Penelope and Joe were in different classes so they never had lunch or recess together. Rowan sat on the swings and she slowly pushed back and forth. She was taught how to push herself but she couldn't gain the energy to push herself.
Rowan's eyes darted around as her teeth sunk into her bottom lip as she watched her classmates play with each other but no one wanted to play with her.
Rowan saw Samantha come towards and Rowan smiled a little because finally, someone wanted to talk to her and play with her but just as Samantha came closer. Rowan watched the Hispanic girl stomp toward her and eyebrows knitted together. She had bows in her long black hair, she wore pink lip gloss you find in the Dollar Tree stores and she had so many bangles on her arms. "You think you're better than everyone," Samantha said and she shoved Rowan, her body fell back instantly.
Rowan's head thudded against the ground right along with her back, Rowan hissed and her ears immediately started to ring. She grunted as she raised a little as she rubbed the back of her head, "N-No, I didn't do anything to you," Rowan stuttered.
Samantha stood over her and she kicked wood chips on Rowan and she shut her eyes quickly. Samantha kicked woodchips at Rowan again, "You're just a freak, a nerd and no one will ever like you," Samantha hissed and Rowan kept her eyes shut as Samantha continued to kick woodchips and dirt on her.
Samantha laughed and Rowan went into a state of shock, it was like her own body couldn't move as she lay paralyzed. Her breathing became shallow as her chest began to heave as her breathing became more shallow as she struggled to catch her breath.
This happened to her many times before, more than she wanted to. Paralyzed on the ground Rowan laid there, Samantha kept laughing and kicked dirt and wood chips onto the little girl. Her friends stood behind Samantha, their laughter echoed through Rowan's head.
"Ow!" Samantha screamed.
Rowan felt someone yank her up and wipe the dirt off of her face and woodchips out of her hair.
