I walking into work smiling at my coworkers, I've become friends with a girl so far but I've only been working here for a few months. Her name is Penelope and she brings me iced coffee every morning, I think it's cause she feels bad that I don't really talk to anyone else. I know the others and we talk but Penelope is the only one I'd consider a friend. She's always wearing bright colours it kind of makes me feel safer. I remember the first day when I cracked a joke about ducks and she was the only one who laughed. I remember feeling so alone till Penelope came over to me. My mind flickers back to my job and I pull out a sheet of paper from my bag. JJ quickly calls to me, "Let hotch know we're starting the briefing please!"

I knock on Hotch's door eager for some assistance. I hear a quick "Come in." And I open the door. My eyes widen and I swear for a moment it's in my head. "Sorry I'll come back later." I clear my throat and she speaks. She actually has the audacity to talk to me. "No go ahead I was just leaving." She says. I'd recognize that smile anywhere. "Prentiss." I grit my teeth and smile. "Sir we're starting with the briefing and I need you to sign off on this so I can give it to Strauss." I say placing a sheet of paper on his desk. He signs it and hands it back to me with a smile. "So why are you here?" I ask coldly turning to Emily. "I was transferred here." She says in a cool tempered tone. I grit my teeth harder walking out as Garcia hands me coffee. "God I hate her." I grumble walking to the briefing room.

When the case ends and we get back I see her again as I help Hotch with his stuff. "Please tell me you haven't been sitting there for four days." He says. I mutter under my breath "Desperate much?" I can feel them both glaring at me and I put my hands up in surrender. "Actually I heard you were flying back in tonight." She says. "Heard? How could you have heard a thing like that?" He says in a quick response. She stands handing him a file. "This was dropped off today." he takes the file, "I appreciate your interest agent but profiling is a specialty. we can't just let anyone who wants to give it a whirl-" She cuts in "The I-80 killer. Co-eds in Indiana?" She's sweating and I can tell. "Yes I read it on the plane." Hotch replies. "They aren't blitz attacks. This guy is organized. He's a white male early 30's and a smooth talker, because even after 11 victims he can still convince educated women who know there's a predator out there, to get into his car." I can hear the hope in her voice and for a split second I love her smarts. Hotch looks invested and I know he's going to give in. "How would you advise the police?" He asks. She walks a bit "I would stake out the ranch house, a nightclub in Gary they have a very popular ladies' night on Thursdays. If you look closely eight out of the 11 victims went missing on a Friday morning. so something gets this creeps motor running on Thursdays. " Hotchner looks unconvinced but then again I can never tell what he's thinking. "This isn't a whirl, Agent Hotchner. I don't know how the paperwork got screwed up or maybe you believe my parents pulled some strings" I snicker in the corner softly "which they didn't by the way. I belong in this unit. All I'm asking for is the chance to prove it." Hotch nods. "I still need to look into this so no promises but we do briefings every morning at 10AM and until this is sorted you will shadow Agent Smith. She will help you with anything you may need." He grunts sitting in his chair. I nod and walk out the office behind Emily closing the door.

"There are five rules keep up with them or I will have you fired, number one, don't talk unless you are spoken to, number two do not bother Agent Hotchner or Gideon unless I say otherwise, number three, when I am working we have no past together, number four don't invade my space and number five do not speak to me outside of work. Do you understand?" I show her the empty desk next to mine and then I sit down and start working. "You're not gonna go home?" she asks. I glare up at her and she goes silent.

The next day I'm sitting with Garcia sipping my iced coffee when Derek comes in. "Hey baby girl. Sup Essie." He says. I smile and wave and she chuckles, "Oh hello hot stuff." Garcia flirts. Prentiss walks in next and I clear my throat looking through the file. JJ comes in, "Nice to see you Essie." She smiles at me and I smile back. Hotch bursts in "Everyone met agent Prentiss?" Everyone shakes their heads and I say, "I've been filling her in on protocol." He nods and sits. Emily and Derek introduce themselves then JJ and Garcia. I roll my eyes and yawn looking at the file.

We discuss the case and I lean on Garcia chiming in, "Terrorists?" My eyes widen. Spencer walks in and sits down next to me. "Sorry I'm late- They've developed devices that span the spectrum of sophistication some as simple as soda bottles and paint cans" He says. I smile and cut in before Emily can "They're called Al Ikh'te'rAA literally, "The invention"." I say with a dark smile towards Emily.

JJ hands her a sheet of paper and she winks and before I can interject to whatever she's going to do. "The DEA recovered a Nextel two-way and managed to intercept a message." JJ says placing a few more sheets of paper on the round table. "That's not a transcript it is Arabic." JJ interjects when Emily starts, but Emily reads it anyways. "Our friends surprised us and eloped, we can no longer wait for the wedding as planned, we can deliver our gift at the next crescent." Everyone stares at her in shock and I chuckle. "Ooo you can speak more than just English big whoop." I grumble. She looks at me, "How many can you speak?" I smirk hastily "οκτώ σκύλα" (eight bitch) I knew she couldn't understand Greek. I know it's a lie and I can only speak six but my rage was stronger than my She rolled her eyes and Hotchner cleared his throat. We both sat back silently.

I grab my go bag and walk over to Gideon and see Emily standing with him. "I'm sorry I thought it was just me going?" I ask. She shakes her head "I'm fluent in Arabic and I could be of use plus I'm still shadowing you." She says. I grit my teeth and fake a quick "Yay." I roll my eyes and follow Gideon "Car leaves in four minutes." I say walking straight past her. I get in the car and Reid is there. "Dude you're coming too?" He nods. "Gideon wanted me there specifically. But I'm too awkward and he's too harsh so I suggested you come." I nod and when we get on the plane I giggle with Spencer a bit as he pulls out a chess board and tries to beat Gideon.

"Excuse me sir I just wanted to say I appreciate-" Gideon cuts in. "Do not thank me." I smile a bit. Gideon was always like my dad and I had told him about my hatred for Emily. I open a coke sipping it and hand her one. I whisper, "Don't take it personally. Half the time he's trying to bite my head off." I smile and she rejects the coke. "I cut off caffeine to help me relax." I nod and spencer asks Gideon a question and suddenly Emily says "That's not an answer." I cringe and for a moment I almost feel bad. "Emily I didn't tell you not to talk because I don't want you to. These guys practically ripped my head off first day here. Just watch what you say. Especially with Gideon." I whisper again, partly lying. "I want Emily to listen. Sub-text and all do not miss a word. Spencer you're going to read body language." I raise a brow. "So why did I come?" Gideon chuckles. "Because you're the only person that can get us out of trouble if we get into trouble." I nod and stay quiet.

"game over." Gideon says. We all look confused and suddenly the plane goes sideways. "Gitmo's runway is perpendicular to Cuban airspace so approaching aircraft you have to negotiate a last minute 90 degree right turn in order to land. They call it the Gitmo twist." Spencer frowns and pouts "I was winning!" I chuckle and at the same time Emily and I speak, "Actually he would have had you in three." I clear my throat and clear my smile.

I watch as Gideon speaks with this man. I stare at them and then the phone rings. "Hey... Okay I will let them know thanks Hotch." I turn to Emily and spencer and sigh "They found something. They're trying to weaponize anthrax." Emily stands up pushing hair out of her face. "Could they even get enough anthrax?" She asks. Spencer cuts in "The letter sent to senator Tom Daschle's office in 2002 only contained two grams of purified spores, enough to kill 25 million people if effectively distributed."

I could've solved this case I was just distracted. On the jet ride back I'm resting my head on Spencer's shoulder when my eyes meet Emily's. I can see the frustration in her eyes but I say nothing. "Esmeray, how come you're not very chatty with anyone?" She asks. "I just don't like trusting people." I point out. Spencer looks down at me, "You don't trust us?" He asks. I feel guilt tear at me. "I trust you and Penny." I mutter not looking up at him. "Why?" He asks me yet another question and I sigh trying to find my response. "Because Penelope made me feel safe, something I haven't felt in a long time. As for you? I guess it was just a gut feeling." I smile up at him before looking at Emily again. "How do you guys know each other?" He questions Emily this time. "We have a long history." she says not mentioning much more than that causing an awkward silence the rest of the plane ride home.
