Chapter 31: Chance Encounter with Horikita Suzune
After spending 390,000 points, Yuto purchased an expensive digital camera, which the mall promised to deliver to his dormitory by 8 pm, allowing him to shop without having to carry the camera around.
Although he hadn't yet visited his dorm and was unsure of its location, he trusted that the mall staff would not deliver it to the wrong address.
Having bought the thank-you gift for his childhood friend, Sakura Airi, Yuto moved towards the area of the mall selling daily necessities to buy some sweets to replenish his sugar level.
The daily necessities area was bustling, especially today, with the influx of wealthy first-year students buying their essentials.
Yuto, too, browsed various goods with interest. Because he often consumed his mental energy due to mind reading ability, he gradually developed the habit of eating sweets.
He would have indulged in a shopping spree if he didn't have plans to earn more points by visiting other clubs in the afternoon.
"Wow, I didn't expect this school to have such a complete variety of instant noodles!"
"Right, I've wanted to try this flavor for a long time!"
Amidst the exclamations of the new students, Yuto reached the end of the mall and stumbled upon shelves marked "Free."
These shelves were stocked with basic necessities like shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and shower gel, with a sign indicating "Receive up to three items per month."
Some of the new students were puzzled by the free shelf, imagining themselves getting one hundred thousand points per month, making it unlikely they would opt for free, lower-quality goods.
While Yuto was examining the items on the free shelves, he detected a subtle, elegant fragrance, reminiscent of snow lotus, exuding a solitary and sweet aroma.
As he identified the direction of the scent, a surprised and indifferent voice came from behind him, "Shimizu, I didn't know you were interested in free stuff?"
Turning around, Yuto was surprised to find his aloof and cold-faced classmate, Horikita Suzune, holding a shopping basket filled with daily necessities such as shampoo and facial cleanser, indicating she was also shopping for her daily supplies.
Horikita Suzune looked at the handsome boy who turned around. She didn't know why she took the initiative to talk to him...
'Maybe it's because I want to know why he was mentioned in the previous broadcast? '
After giving herself a plausible reason, Horikita Suzune faced Yuto's gaze more comfortably.
"Horikita, you're shopping here too?" Yuto said, surprised.
"Hmm." Horikita Suzune nodded slightly and said, "You have one hundred thousand private points in your balance, why are you so thrifty, even looking at free products?"
"You misunderstood, Horikita. I'm not selecting free products; I was just looking around."
"Is that so?"
Yuto glanced at the basket Horikita Suzune was carrying and remarked, "Horikita, you seem quite frugal, choosing more affordable daily essentials."
Yuto's keen memory allowed him to recognize that the products in Horikita Suzune's basket were indeed cheaper options.
"I'm used to saving, and I'm unsure when the school might require points, so I prefer to save as much as I can," Horikita Suzune replied.
Yuto looked at her surprisingly, considering that she, a seemingly remarkable beauty, didn't pay much attention to taking care of herself.
However, Horikita Suzune's thrifty nature seemed fitting for a strict wife managing household finances.
Feeling uneasy under Yuto's scrutiny, Horikita Suzune, with her charming fox-like eyes, glared at him, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing, I'm just surprised by your thriftiness," Yuto shifted the topic, "By the way, Horikita, what do you think about the free goods provided here?"
Horikita Suzune's gaze shifted to the free items as she coldly replied, "The school probably set these up to cater to students who spend their points recklessly."
"These free products are a kind of relief measure for students who have squandered too many points."
"The school really does cater to all student needs."
With a monthly allowance of one hundred thousand private points, students would have no need to worry about conserving them. They could spend freely without having to save.
Horikita Suzune believed many students, especially those in Class D like herself and Shimizu Yuto, were simple-minded and lacked self-control, forcing the school to provide these free products as a precaution.
Looking at the products on the free shelf, she commented, "Judging from the situation of these free products, it seems many students have been spending their points unrestrainedly, as many items have been taken."
"Or maybe they are saving, not spending their points on buying daily necessities?"
Yuto revealed a peculiar smile after hearing this.
The students who took the free goods probably weren't recklessly spending nor saving their points for other purchases...
They likely had no points left for daily necessities, hence resorting to these free yet inferior products!
Yuto concealed his smile and asked her, "Horikita, do you really think the school is providing free products just because they are worried students will spend all their points indiscriminately?"
Horikita Suzune, thinking this way, wasn't aware of the peculiarities associated with the monthly allocation of one hundred thousand private points, nor the significance of points.
"Isn't that the case?" Horikita Suzune looked at Yuto with a stern and puzzled gaze, questioning, "Do you have a different view, Shimizu?"
