Wednesday and Adeline had returned back to Nevermore and the dark-haired girl's fiery plan had gotten her into heaps of trouble with Principal Weems—even if there was no hard evidence to prove that it was her in the first place.Adeline sat on her bed, tentatively gliding her fingers over her slightly healed wound. 'Thanks River,' she murmured, giving the cat a pat on the head. 'I probably would have been in hospital, strung up to a bunch of shit if it weren't for you.'
The ragdoll cat purred, nuzzling his fluffy fur into Adeline's side. 'But..' she began. 'You can't keep hating on Wednesday, she does... a lot.. for me. She's my—uh . . . my friend, you know?'
River let out a mroww of laughter, and meowed back to Adeline in his usual sarcastic tone, expecting a sharp retort from the girl.
'I know, River.' She said softly. 'I think—I think I do.' She whispered, her voice trailing off as she reached the end of her sentence.
Three sharp knocks echoed throughout Adeline's room.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
The brunette stood up, and walked over to her door, unlocking it. She was met by a dressed-up Enid, beret and all. 'Addie!' She squeaked out. 'I need your help! I'm going out with Ajax, and I—I need help with what I'm going to wear!' She rushed out, gripping the other girl's shoulders with her hands excitedly, and shaking them.
'Really...?' Adeline said, raising an eyebrow with a smirk on her face. 'Yes, really! Wednesday is no use,' she complained, crossing her arms.
'Okay! I'll come!' Adeline said, turning around to River. 'Enjoy your alone time! Don't scratch up the walls!" She said loudly, and the ragdoll nodded in response, rolling his eyes and meowing something back.
'Oh God, I forgot that,' she whispered to herself and her cat. 'Enid...errr...how long am I going to be in your dorm for?' She questioned, tapping her foot against the floorboards nervously.
'You can keep Wednesday company while she writes her book!' Enid squealed, shaking Adeline's shoulders again. The brunette's eyes slightly widened at the other girl's words. Keep Wednesday company? I don't think I can do that...
'Oh, okay!' Adeline said, anxiousness laced in her voice. 'I'm just gonna grab something real quick-' she added, rushing back into her room and grabbing a little tin of mints, presumably, and then hurriedly waving good-bye to River.
The two then walked the short distance that was between their dorms, Enid babbling on about Ajax, and Adeline zoned out... thinking about a certain someone.
The blonde burst into the bedroom, skipping over to her bed and picking up a multicoloured crop-top. Oh! That's... nice! Adeline thought, her eyes fixated on Enid, only so that they wouldn't stray to a particular dark-haired girl who sat, typing away, at her desk.
'Too much?' Enid frowned, holding out the top. Adeline grimaced, and Wednesday turned around, momentarily pausing her typing.
'I feel like you just napalmed me, Enid.' She deadpanned. Adeline chuckled—the goth girl's dry humour could unintentionally put a smile on anyone's face.
'So glad I have my date with Ajax tonight,' Enid began, talking mostly to herself. 'Get my mind off of that train wreck of an afternoon.'
Wednesday turned around, and shared a glance—or more like a knowing, malicious half-smirk—with Adeline.
'I literally think I have PTSD.'
Adeline cringed, internally shuddering at Enid's words.
'I mean I didn't even get to do my dance routine!'
