Few surfing moments between the gang. Pt.1
Jake's POV
I'm on the beach to see the sun rising, and I'm not even the first one here. There is a streak of orange across the horizon, the silhouette of surfers etched against the orange sky.
I walk into the ankle-deep water with my board resting on my hip. When the water reaches my waist I push my board out in front of me. I sink onto it, enjoying the cold water on my skin.
I push myself over the smaller waves until I get out beyond the breakers and into the back, where the other surfers are waiting.
My first wave is a disaster. I paddle too soon, get too keen, and end up in the water. But I paddle out again, determined that I'll get a good set before heading back in for breakfast.
I watch a few of the locals catch waves, and then eventually it's my turn. It's getting more busier and warmer. The sun is already hot on my back, not that I'm complaining. I see a good wave coming and I get ready. But there's another surfer just in front of me, and I can see she's spotted the same wave. I almost sit back thinking I'll let her catch it, until I recognise the dark brown hairs. It's Bridget. I didn't even see her come out.
She hadn't noticed me yet so I started paddling, and I paddled hard too, ready for my wave. I get onto it this time and when I stand up I'm eye-to-eye with Bridget. She has to pull up short, and the waves break over her, dumping her. I cut through the waves past her, laughing. I look back to see her spluttering in the water, trying hard to turn her board over and get on it.
I saw Bridget who had already reached the shore while i was paddling. After untying my leash rope she's halfway down the beach and i run as fast as I can with my board in one hand.
"Hey Bridget, wait."
"Hi there, Jake."
"took you long enough huh."
"just wait until I spray you on my next wave," she said playfully.
"Not if I spray you first!" I reply.
"Do I sense a challenge?" she asked.
"Sure thing,"
" I'm still here surfing for another good hour. Why don't you join me huh." I asked hopefully.
I was hoping she would say yes. Its been a while since me and the gang went surfing. And its even better now. Its just me and Bridget.
I check the time and oh-"As much as I'd be happy to do so, Jake, I can't. We should hurry up and get ready for our school."
"Yea understandable, I almost forgot about it. Let's go together," I said.
"Sure, why not."
