Take Me As I Am

Chapter 3

  *Kendall's POV*
  "Brennen I-" I'm cut off by the waitress frantically running to the table.
  "Get up there's a tornado coming! Come follow everyone down to the cellar! Come on! Come on!" She rushes us out of our seats and pushes towards the crowd of people. Tornado?! In California?! That hasn't happend since, I don't even know when! People are pushing and shoving trying to get down before the storm starts.
  "Move!" A man yells pushing past me making me fall in the stampede of terrified people.
  "Kendall!" I hear seconds later, I look up to see Brennen holding out his hand. I take it and in one swift motion I'm being carried in his arms.
  We finally get down to the cellar and I hear the storm start. Everyone is quite listening to the thunder and rain.
  "Are you okay?" Brennen asks snapping me out of my daze.
  "Uh, yeah I think so." Before now I didn't realize that I'm sitting on his lap cradled in his arms. "Are you?" I ask moving to sit on the floor. He looks upset by this by still answers with a sigh.
  "I'm great." He leans against the wall without another word. A couple minutes pass and Brennen still hasn't said anything. I scoot closer to him. Nothing besides a shift of position.
  "Brennen." I grab his hand and he looks at me. He's been crying.  "I'm sorry." I see what I'll call a smile form on the ends of his lips. "Do you forgive me?"
  "Of course. I don't know how I couldn't." He smirks.
  "You know your lap's a lot more comfortable then the ground." I remark smiling at him.
  "Is it really?" He asks pretending to be oblivious.
  "Yeah it really is."
  "That's weird."
  "Brennen!"
  "Fine come here." He laughs letting me make myself comfortable.
  "Thanks Brennen." I say cuddling my head into his warm chest. I hear his heartbeat start going faster.
  "Anything for you." He mumbles resting his chin on my head. Soon the rain and his heartbeat lulls me to sleep.

  I wake up to hear people talking and moving around. Brennen must have fallen asleep too because every now and then I hear the most quite and adorable snore. I look up at him still sound asleep I can't help but notice his perfect skin, long beautiful eyelashes, and his perfect soft lips. I lightly place a kiss on his cheek hoping he doesn't wake up. His lips curl into a small smile then it disappears.
  "Um, excuse me?" A woman says from behind me.
  "Yes?" I clear my throat embarrassed.
  "The storms have past and so has the tornado."
  "So we can leave?"
  "Yes."
  "Thank you so much." I smile, she nods in response and walks away. "Brennen." I whisper trying to wake him up.
  "Yeah." He says almost right away.
  "We can-"
  "I heard." He smirks.
  "Were you awake this whole time?!"
  "Maybe." He chuckles.
  "Brennen!" I blush shoving his shoulder. He makes kissy faces at me mocking me. "Shut up!"
  "Ready to go?" He laughs.
  "Yeah." I scoff sticking my tongue out at him.
  We walk outside and what we see is unimaginable. Tears start streaming down my face. Brennen wraps his arms around me and I put my head in his chest to muffle my cries. He slowly rocks me back and forth.
  Everything's been damaged.
