Chapter 2.
꧁ ꧂
Soarynn
"You look absolutely miserable, you know that right?" Soarynn shot Clemensia a nasty look when given that snide comment about her appearance.
Soarynn looked quite presentable in her opinion. She was wearing a knee-length skirt with a silky blouse tucked into it, with heels to match of course. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and her makeup was light and natural.
In other words, she looked very put together for someone still going through a breakup.
"I do not," she replied, focusing back on the hem of the dress she had been working on. Clemensia scoffed as she held up two swatches of fabric, trying to decide which color best suited the bodice of the dress, "Yes you do. You've looked miserable every day since you two broke up."
The news of Soarynn and Coriolanus breaking up spread quite quickly throughout the Capitol, like wildfire.
When an item like them split up after being together for so long, it was a big topic of conversation. Soarynn did her best to brush it off and act as if it wasn't affecting her, but it was.
Over half a decade with the same boy and now they were done, over, finalized.
She kept replaying their last conversation in her head, trying to find where they went wrong. But she had to keep it together, at least in the eye of the public.
At home was when she cried, held onto old memories, old keepsakes, and gifts he had given her over the years.
She had half expected him to call, to check on her, but nothing came from Coriolanus Snow. Probably too busy with his internship , Soarynn thought as she finished with the hem.
"Well we were together for quite some time, and I find it unrealistic to bounce back immediately," Soarynn finally said, standing up and dusting off her skirt.
The look Clemensia gave her told Soarynn that she saw right through her facade, "Soarynn, it's okay to be sad about it, you two loved each other. But you can't keep going on like this, trying to act like you're fine when you're clearly not."
Soarynn was hurt, and rightly so. She felt as if she'd given him everything and in the end, he gave her nothing, even though that wasn't true.
Until the end, Coriolanus remained a loyal, protective boyfriend. He even made sure she made it safely into her apartment that dreadful night. And that counted for something, right?
"My heart will recover Clemmie, but until then I must maintain my outward appearance."
Soarynn knew very well that many eyes were on her, watching how she handled the breakup. If she wanted to keep her spot in high society, she had to keep it together. There had been a moment where she worried that she might be seen as less than now that she and Coriolanus were through.
But she remained where she always stood, well respected and adored by all. Just the way she liked it.
"Are you going to the gala tonight? I heard Coryo will be there," Clemensia said as she decided on the swatch of fabric.
