October 1989 Smallville Kansas
(Flashback)
Meteors are hurtling towards Earth and not one person has any idea they are coming.
In a helicopter heading towards Smallville Lionel Luthor and his 8 year old son Alexander are flying over a cornfield heading to the new LuthorCorp plant.
"Open your eyes Lex. Luthors are not afraid we're meant to be leaders" Lionel Luthor said to his son.
"I can't"
"You have a destiny Lex. Your never gonna get anywhere with your eyes closed."

Johnathan, Martha, and six year old Emma Kent walk into Nell's flower shop. With encouragement from her parents, Emma immediately walks over to another girl dressed in a princess costume. They start playing while Johnathan and Martha continue to look around.
"Afternoon Nell."
"Johnathan... Martha. What a surprise. What brings the reclusive Kent's to town?"
"Tulips red ones if you have them."
"What about a Tiger Orchid?"
"No thanks Martha has her heart set on tulips."
"Yes well they are a very uncomplicated flower." Nell walks from behind the counter to go and retrieve the flowers for the Kent's.
Martha aware of Nell's hostility leaves her husband and walks over to her daughter and her new friend playing in a booth together.
"That is a beautiful dress Lana. Are you a princess? I know Emma likes princesses too."
"Mommy no I don't! I don't want to be a princess, I want to be something cool!"
"Oh honey, was is it you want to be then?"
"A scientist, or a doctor, or maybe even a farmer like daddy."
"Well that is very brave of you sweetheart, but if Lana wants to be a princess then we should let her have her dreams too, right?"
"Yes mommy. So are you a princess?"
"I'm a fairy princess!"
"Cool!"
Martha smiles and continues to play with the girls while Johnathan asks Nell where Lana's parents are as she brings back the tulips.
"They are at the homecoming game like everyone else. I'm being the good Aunt."
Johnathan chuckles.
"Do you wanna make a wish Emma?" Lana points her wand at Emma and smiles.
"No i'm okay, can my mommy make a wish though?"
"Yeah!"
Martha smiles and beams at her daughter. From such a young age she can already see the selflessness and caring nature she has towards others.
