"A nice day with the guys, that's what you need, a day to stop thinking about Emma," Callum told me as he rang me up on Sunday afternoon.
"Fine, fine," I mumbled. Secretly, I was hoping to bump into Emma or something so I could actually speak to her again and ask her about that stupid bastard Darren.
"Great, meet us in town in an hour," he said, chuckling to himself.
I took an age to get ready so I had just 5 minutes to grab some money and run for the bus. I managed to get on just before it left, grabbing the last seat next to a girl who was asleep. I fumbled around in my pocket for my poem. I don't know why I'd brought it with me - part of me was hoping she'd come to town. A lot of people go to town...Maybe she would be there too...
"Hey," a dreamy voice whispered. I looked around to see the sleeping girl beside me had woken up and was looking at me with scarily huge blue eyes. I just smiled weakly at her, I didn't want to start a conversation with some weirdo I'd met on the bus.
"What bus is this?" the girl said in the same irritating tone.
Deciding to be polite, I told her the number of the bus we were on and then quickly got my headphones out and put them in, playing my music as loud as possible so I wouldn't have to listen to the girl's annoying voice.
I felt a bony finger tap me on the shouler and I yanked my headphones from my ears, "What?"
"I like that song," she said, a strange look on her face. I looked at her properly for the first time. She had a dopey look on her face, possibly because she'd just been asleep, and she was hot. She had quite a rack on her and these long tanned legs that were kicked up against the back of the chair in front. Her hair was the colour of wet sand and hung over one eye. She was kind of sexy. Any other day I would've been drooling over her.. But right now I like Emma and for some reason, no other girl can compare.
"You do?" I said drily.
"Yeah. I have tickets to a concert of theirs on the weekend..." she said, her eyes looking off into the distance dreamily.
"Wow, aren't you lucky?" I said without enthusiasm.
"Hey! I've got an idea!" she squealed. "You could join me!" She ran her hand down my arm, I remain straight-faced, my heart doesn't hammer, it doesn't affect me.
"Going to a concert with a girl I don't even know the name of?" I laughed. "Nooo thanks..."
"I'm Lauren," she said, her eyes widening. She had no idea what I meant...
I was about to tell her I wasn't interested when Emma stepped on the bus. Time slowed down, I'm not even kidding. She was here! She looked stunning, as usual, but there was something different. Her face was pink, as if she'd been crying, and she was wearing oversized clothes - the sort of stuff that would only really fit a bulky guy. I swallowed nervously, realising who's clothes she was wearing.
Darren came onto the bus only moments later, sliding his arm around her waist, smiling and acting charming to the bus driver. He kissed her neck affectionately; but she pushed him away.
I was disgusted. Why was she wearing his clothes? Had she slept with him? What was Emma? Some sort of slut? Or were the tears in her eyes there because she'd been forced into it? She didn't even notice me as she slipped past, but there was a smug look on Darren's face as he caught my eye. And there was me thinking I had a chance because Darren had a girlfriend.
Lauren looked confused, "Sorry... Do you know them?"
I smiled, "Haven't a clue. So - how about this concert?"
