Evan accompanied Michael to the subway where they waited for a train amidst the noisy and crowded environment.
Michael: Let's sit down.
Michael sat on a bench beside a homeless man wearing a tan jacket, jeans, and a green beanie. Evan joined Michael.
Evan: Where will we go?
Michael was not paying attention to Evan and appeared lost in thought. He noticed that everyone looked worried. Michael had the desire to take a stroll through the subway. He glanced at a man dressed in black and then at a single mother with two children.
Michael heard an echo. Michael, Michael! Michael turned around to see Evan talking to him.
Michael: Yeah?
Evan was curious about why Michael zoned out.
Evan: Where are we going?
Michael rubbed the side of his temple and didn't know what to do. He bobbed his foot up and down feeling like everybody was moving faster. An idea showed up in his head.
Michael: Evan, we have to steal.
Evan shushed Michael.
Evan: There is a man next to us, we have to be quieter!
The homeless man turned around and he seemed to be concerned.
Homeless Man: You guys alright?
Michael turned his head and looked at him. This stench is horrible... Michael almost gagged and couldn't speak. He grabbed Evan and moved away, where the train arrived.
They walked to the train, where multiple people entered the train. A shroud of chatter filled the train, where it momentarily stopped as Michael and Evan walked in. A woman looked at them, her eyes were flickering at them. She looked away and back. She tucked in her purse and kept it away from them. Michael kept walking as he saw a man who seemed to be in his 40s standing there. Michael brought Evan closer to his back and put his arm behind Evan.
Michael: Excuse me.
Michael said in a shaken voice. He leaned his head downwards and was shaking.
The man nodded and moved by and they sat down next to an old lady. The lady hurried over for Michael and Evan to sit. Michael and Evan groaned as they sat down and he exhaled. Evan leaned over to Michael's shoulder, where he closed his eyes and slept. The old lady turned her head and looked at them, where she asked them a question.
Lady: Where are your parents?
Michael couldn't come up with an excuse. He started to stutter his words and he began to get red. Think, Think! He got an idea. He started to explain that his parents missed the train and he had to go back.
Michael: M-My parents were t-too late to this train and we were being pushed around, so now we have to wait-t-uh.
The old lady snickered and started to giggle. She pulled out her purse and grabbed a piece of candy. It was a strawberry bonbon. She gave it to Michael and gave them another one.
Lady: That one is for your brother. I know you guys are lying and I'm too old to adopt you guys. She giggled.
Michael felt safe when he leaned closer to the old lady. He sucked on his candy and swished it around his mouth. Evan finally woke up and felt relaxed and light. He turned his head and noticed that they were going through the tunnel, where lights slithered through, it seemed like everything was infinite. Evan waved and whispered in a groaned voice,
