"So a weh your bwoy gone?" he questions, a devious smirk set playfully on his lips.
He-hey, look pon problem yah now.
"Kingston" that's all I can say, trying not to laugh out loud at his audacity.
One ting bout man, dem more mix-up than we as woman.
He nods, rubbing his tongue over his top set of teeth. I notice his hands have been hiding behind his back since I opened the door just seconds earlier.
"A wah dat behind yuh back?" I inquire, squinting my eyes warily.
His smirk shifts into a smile, and before I know it he's beaming, revealing a dozen red roses and a small handwritten note tucked gently into the wrapping paper.
I fake gasp, still expressing genuine emotion, "A me yuh bring dat fah?"
"Who else Cam-Cam?" he answers, rolling his eyes as he hands them over to me.
"Thank you Kyle, yuh know seh yuh have have decent ways bout yuh sometimes enuh" I joke, motioning for him to step off the verandah and into the foyer.
I pick the card from the wrapping and read it aloud, making sure to close the front door behind us.
''To one of the greatest women I know, I love your strength. Keep being you ❤️"
Without hesitation, my bottom lip flips out into a pout, my eyes welling with tears from the raw affection in his words.
God really blessed me with great friends.
"Doh start di bagga bawling ting now enuh bredda" he affectionately jeers, "Juss sumn to brighten your sprits, proud of you for how far you've come these past few months" he professes, opening his arms for a hug. Shuffling across the floors to meet him where he stands, I sink into his arms welcoming the embrace.
"Love yuh kid" I hear him whisper, tightening his hold on me before placing a quick kiss on my forehead.
Kid?
It's been years since he's called me that, it was a nickname he gave to me years ago when we first met. While familiar, there was a strange emotion laced in the way he said all these years later.
Hmm...
I pull away first, walking towards the kitchen to find a vase for my roses.
"Your bwoy nuh love him yaad?" Kyle calls after me, finding a seat on the loveseat.
Dah likkle bwoy yah a trouble maker eesi.
"He had an interview in Kingston this morning, and to how my belly a heng out in front a me, me decide seh me nah tek up myself a guh" I reply, knowing that he would push the issue until he was satisfied with my response.
