𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐀𝐍𝐍𝐀𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐇 walked from the big house to the cabins, placed neatly in a U shape near the woods. Laughing and talking as they went, people stopped what they were doing to look at the pair. They were known as a power duo around camp, brains and beauty in both of them.
"Are you going to decide on anything today?" Annabeth asked Rowan, gesturing to her now mid-back length hair.
"Not at all," Rowan laughed. "I'm gonna try and freak out the new kid as much as possible." She said, lowering her voice slightly, as if coming up with an evil plan. The blond shook her head at her friend, laughing at her, and kept walking towards the cabins. Rowan jogged to catch up with Annabeth and changed her eyes once more; this time they were a hazel color, more brown compared to the green they had been earlier.
They finally reached Cabin 11, the Hermes cabin, and where the new boy Percy will be until he is claimed. Rowan knocked on the door and noticed it was slightly open. Scared, she opened the door slowly, expecting some prank from Connor and Travis. Nothing came from the cabin, thankfully, so Rowan swung the door open the rest of the way. Some campers still lingered in the cabin, most likely for their free time before lunch.
"Luke," Annabeth yelled into the cabin. "You in there?" Shuffling could be heard from around the corner you couldn't see from the doorway, along with something dropping. Luke walked to the door from the corner of the cabin, holding one hand with the other and cursing under his breath. He muttered something about a splinter before speaking clearly to Rowan and Annabeth.
"Hey guys, nice look today Rowan." He flashed them both a grin. She couldn't help being flattered, compliments were one of her biggest weaknesses. But Luke was more like a brother, and she looked up to him. He was a great swordsman and Rowan always wished to have skill like him. Most people looked down on Rowan just because of her mother, Aphrodite, but people forget she isn't just a goddess of beauty. Aphrodite is a goddess of war; she has granted many of her children enhanced battle skills, Rowan being one of them. Nobody ever feels the need to work with Rowan or help her become better in battle, except for Luke. He always pushes her to help her get better. She trains almost everyday to become better, and its working. She is slowly slithering her way higher and higher on the unofficial list of best swordsmen; doing what she does best, going unnoticed and ending up on top.
"Thank you, I'm trying to see how many times I can change without the new kid saying something," she said while laughing.
"I think that's a great idea," said a new voice coming from inside the cabin. Just from the way his voice trailed up at the end of his sentence, Rowan could tell it was Travis. He had a way of saying things differently than his brother, Connor.
"My bet's six." And there's Connor.
"Speaking of the new kid," Annabeth cut in. "Is his bunk area ready? Chiron is going to show him around soon and he asked us to check on his bunk." Rowan silently thanked Annabeth's common sense and memory.
"Yeah, over there in the corner. Everything's ready whenever he gets here." Luke gave Annabeth a big smile, and Rowan saw her blush. She kicked the blondes foot with hers and Annabeth hit her in the shoulder while Luke turned back to say something to Connor and Travis. One of them, Rowan made a guess on Connor, tilted his chin forward with his eyes set on a sport somewhere behind Rowan and Annabeth.
"There he is," the pitch of the voice stayed the same, so she knew her guess had been correct; no change in octave at the end, it was Connor. Both girls looked over their shoulders to see Chiron walking with Percy at his side.
"Rowan, Annabeth, I've got master's archery class at noon, would you mind taking Percy from here?" Chiron asked when he and Percy reached the cabin.
"Of course," Annabeth said, and Rowan a beat later.
"Cabin 11," he said to Percy. "Make yourself at home." Rowan noticed Percy examining the paint on the walls and the caduceus placed over the door. The campers inside slowly stopped what they were doing and noticed Chiron. They stood and bowed to him. Chiron offered Percy a nod and a farewell, then galloped away. All Percy did was stand in the doorway, stunned. Rowan took this as her time to talk. Before speaking, she decided to change her hair up once again, just to mess with him.
"Go on, what are you waiting for." He turned to look at her and gave her a confused look, but nonetheless, didn't say anything. When he turned around, Rowan gave Connor a look and mouthed that's two.
As he walked inside, his foot got caught on the step and he tripped into the cabin. A few campers giggled, but Rowan had to place her hand to her mouth and turn away to compose herself.
"Percy Jackson, meet cabin 11," Annabeth said, hitting Rowan to get her to behave. She took a deep breath and turned back to face the cabin.
"Regular or undetermined?" A camper asked from inside.
"Undetermined...." Rowan muttered after clearing her throat, still recovering from trying not to laugh. Everyone groaned, except one person; this is clearly why he's the counselor.
"Guys, this is what we are here for," Luke spoke, walking forward to meet Percy. "Welcome Percy. That spot over there is yours." Luke pointed behind him to the area they had set up for him. Rowan could tell he was looking at Luke's scar, every new kid did. She had offered to cover it for him, but he stated he wanted it to show as a reminder that the gods don't really care about their children. At the time, she thought that was a little harsh; now she understood where he was coming from.
"This is Luke," Annabeth's voice seemed lighter somehow, like when you talk about someone you love. Rowan looked over at her and, yup, she was blushing. Percy must've looked over too, because she immediately composed herself. "He'll be your counselor, for now."
"For now?" Percy asked
Luke responded to his question, "you're undetermined, they don't know what cabin to place you in. So your here for now. Cabin 11 takes all the newcomers, and all the visitors, naturally. Hermes, our patron, is the god of travelers." Rowan could see the gears turning in the poor kids head. He looked at the area Luke pointed to before, where he would be sleeping, and glanced at his things he was carrying. He then look around at the campers faces. Connor and Travis looked like they were coming up with something evil, so Rowan gave them a glare and shook her head.
"How long will I be here?" He asked.
"Good question," Luke responded, "until your determined." Rowan wanted to say duh, and she could tell Annabeth was thinking the same thing.
"How long will that take?" She could tell he wasn't trying to be funny, and he was being serious, but it was hard not to laugh when everyone else did. All Annabeth did was roll her eyes.
"Come on, let me show you the volleyball court," Annabeth said with a scoff.
"But I've already seen it,"
"Just come on." Annabeth then grabbed his wrist and stormed off in frustration.
"Hey, wait up Annie," Rowan yelled to them, taking long strides to catch up.
