Dear Diary,
It's been a week since everything went down at the falls, and I still can't shake the feeling of unease that's been lingering ever since. Liz has been kind enough to take me in, along with her daughter Caroline, but things are far from easy.
Living with Liz and Caroline is... complicated, to say the least. Liz has been nothing but welcoming, but I can't shake the feeling that Caroline doesn't want me here. Maybe it's just my imagination, but there's an undeniable tension between us that I can't ignore.
Today marks my first day of high school, a concept that feels simultaneously foreign and familiar. I can't help but wonder if I've ever been to high school before, or if this is all just some strange dream. Liz made sure I signed up for cheerleading with Caroline, citing it as a way to keep an eye on me throughout the day. I can't say I'm thrilled about the idea, but I suppose it's better than wandering the halls aimlessly.
But enough about that. I have to go fetch Caroline so we can leave for school. It's going to be a long day, but hopefully, it'll be the start of something... normal.
Until next time, Jade
Jade knocked lightly on Caroline's bedroom door, her voice carrying through the wood. "Caroline, we're going to be late for school," she called out, hoping to rouse her reluctant roommate.
There was no response, just the faint sound of muffled voices from within. Jade waited a moment longer, but when there was still no answer, she grew concerned. With a cautious hand, she turned the doorknob and pushed the door open, expecting to find Caroline still lost in sleep.
Instead, she was met with an unexpected sight.
Standing shirtless in the center of the room was Damon Salvatore, the man she had seen vanish into the night at the bonfire. His presence sent a shiver down Jade's spine, and she instinctively took a step back.
But her attention was quickly drawn to the bed, where a crimson stain marred the white pillow. Blood. The sight made her stomach churn, and she felt a wave of unease wash over her.
Ignoring Damon, Jade pushed past him and hurried to Caroline's side. "Caroline, are you okay?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.
Damon's voice cut through the air, a mix of amusement and annoyance. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the new houseguest," he remarked, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Didn't anyone ever teach you to knock?"
Jade glanced briefly at Damon, her eyes narrowing in distrust, before turning her attention back to Caroline. She noticed her roommate covering her neck, a strange look in her eyes.
"Caroline, seriously, what happened?" Jade pressed with a sense of urgency.
But before Caroline could respond, Damon stepped between them, his gaze locking with Jade's. There was something hypnotic about his eyes, something that made her feel strangely vulnerable.
