I know you tried. I am confident you did your best. I know you've already expressed your feelings in every way possible.
You've been good to him.
You've shown genuine concern for him.
You have been true to him.
You have deeply loved him.
You've already done it, and I'm really proud of you.
This time, respect yourself.
You do not have to stop loving that person. Instead, love him, just not as much as you love yourself.
Treat him well, but not at the expense of treating yourself properly.
You care for him, but not as much as you do for your own well-being.
You've already tried, therefore there's nothing to regret. There is nothing to feel ashamed of.
There is nothing to prove at all.
