"Good morning." I greet, trying to sound as nonchalant as I could.

Manar covers her flinch by clearing her throat. Tucking her hairs behind her ears she gives me a small nod.

"Morning, sir."

"You can call me Mahib."

She looks up at me, her one brown glinting under the morning sun peeking through the window walls of the hallway.

She looks down at her desk and licks her lips. "That would be inappropriate, sir."

"No it won't." I say. "Most of the people around us do call me by my name."

"They are mostly on higher post." She replies. "I am not."

"Fine, you can call me whatever you want." I give her a smile. "How's your work going around? Is there any problem?"

She shakes her head. "No there isn't. Thank you for asking."

She isn't much of a conversationalist. I take a step towards my office but turn around to face her again. "Ms. Manar."

Her eyes widen slightly as she faces me again, "Yes?"

"Ali told me you don't interact with anyone around. Is something the matter? Did someone said something to you? You could talk to me about it."

She gives a small smile, "No, no one said something to me, I don't really talk much."

"Ah." I nod. "But still, if anyone bothers you, you come straight to me, got it?"

She nods. "Thank you."

Okay. So she finished the conversation. What now?

I think I should try after some time again.

I turn around to leave when she calls me this time.

"Mr. Mahib?"

"Yes?" I whirl around so fast, I could compete figure skaters.

She walks out of her desk and holds up a paper for me, "Your assistant called in sick today, he mailed me this saying it's your schedule for today and asked me to assist you."

I take the paper from her hand. "You are going to assist me today?"

She rubs her index finger and middle finger together by her side. "If it's okay with you, you have better options than me."

"No." I say quickly. "You are perfect."

Her eyes widen slightly. "Oh, um thank you."

I look at the time, "We have to attend a meeting by two in the afternoon, be ready."

She nods. "Alright, sir."

I preferred Mr. Mahib more.

"See you in the afternoon," I walk towards my office, "Also can you please confirm our reservation in the restaurant Ali choose with our clients for afternoon meeting?"
