NINE YEARS AGO, 20 FEBRUARY 2006.
"Are you comfortable now?" Eman asks, the afternoon sun falling on her face with the shadow net of tree leaves.
"I guess, it's been nearly two months now." Manar says, bringing her knees upto her chest and rests her cheek on her knees.
"It gets better." Eman says looking at the garden. It was lunch time now and the garden area was crowded. "How is your family back home? I am sure they must be missing you."
A lot. Manar leaving her house was the biggest mistake according to them but she was here to prove them wrong.
Manar nods, a small smile on her face. "They do. And I miss them a lot too."
"Are you the youngest?" Eman asks, tucking her dark locks behind her ears.
She nods. "Yes and an only sister to two older brothers."
"Oh my, I can't even imagine having older siblings, how liberating does it feel to be the youngest?" Eman asks with an edge of humour in her voice.
Manar chuckles. "Oh it's very fun, alright. I enjoy being spoiled."
"You must be the princess of your house." Eman says with a smile.
"I believe so." Manar chuckles with a shrug.
She looks across the garden and spots two guys walking towards them, or specifically for Eman.
"Your friends are here." She says, squaring her shoulders, her defenses rising up whenever she sees them other than Eman.
It's been a month since she joined and Eman is the only person she had made friends with except few occasional talks with her classmates.
But besides Eman, she does not have any friends and she doesn't wants to, especially those two boys with Eman.
Zaviyar doesn't care, he just hates how she takes all of Eman's time. And well the other one, Mahib....he is a different case.
"Why does Zaviyar hates me?" Manar voice outs, looking at the brooding guy who had spotted Eman in the crowd and some sort of calmness washes over his face.
Eman snaps her eyes to Manar. "No, he doesn't." She spots him across the garden. "He is like that. Grumpy, anti-social type. Trust me, I have known him since my childhood."
"Really?" Her eyes widened, "So you all are childhood friends?"
Eman nods with a smile. "Yes, we all have a generational friendship. Our grandparents were best friends, then our parents were best friends, and now us."
"Uhm." Manar hums, "Just friends?" She bumps her shoulder.
Eman looks at her with wide eyes. "Yes! Stop with whatever going on in your head."
