Well this place seems like a dream. Total paradise! Thought Jenni.
She and her mother walked down the sea side where two little girls sat playing in the sand.
"This place is wonderful, mother!" Screamed Jenni as she jumped from the rickety docks and into the water making a splash.
"I hope you have a wonderful time." Said her mom "I have to get back home, the moving van will be there any minute and will need my help getting it all inside."
"Oh, okay mom. I will stay here so you don't need to worry about me."
As her mother headed back to the house, Jenni pranced over to a group of girls.
"Hi!" Said Jenni. "My name is Jenni and I'm new here."
The girls looked at each other and giggled. One of them however, spoke up.
"Hey and welcome." She said. "My name is Carol."
"So what's up?" Asked Jenni.
"Well," Said Carol "We got here a while ago so we where about to leave to go shopping. Come with?"
"Oh, I'm sorry." Said Jenni "I promised my mom I would stay. I wouldn't want her to be worried."
"Oh.. Um.. That's fine. Talk to you some other time then." Carol said with a smile.
"It was nice meeting you!" Jenni called.
The girls walked out of the park. Jenni turned to the forest. She approached it slowly as if it could harm her. She hesitantly entered it.
The pine trees blew in the breeze. Jenni walked into the forest, the trees surrounded her and the only sound was the tune of a melancholy song. It was very quiet but still audible. She crept farther into the forest until the sound was clear. It was a boy, about her age. He was singing in a tall oak tree near the very top.
Jenni looked up. He had a guitar up there with him.
"Hello up there!" Jenni called up to the boy while waving her hands.
The boy noticed her and called down. "Hayyy..." He replied in a long quiet voice with a a slight British accent. "What's up?"
"Well, you are" Said Jenni.
The boy chuckled.
"Come on up here. I can barley see you."
"Its more like you should come down here." Said Jenni "I'm not very good at climbing trees.. I'm not looking to fall today"
"Up here" He corrected. "Fine, I'll come down.
The boy slung his coffin guitar case over his back and slid down the tree trunk like it was every day's routine.
He looked Jenni up and down. "Well, hey. How do you do?" Said the boy with a bit of a nervous look on his face.
"I'm Jenni." She said, scrunching up her nose.
The boy was clearly taller than her. At least a foot. He smelled hevily of the pines. His hair was dark and so where his eyes. But the boy was quite pale and wore mostly dark colors like blacks and greys. He flipped his wavy hair almost constantly.
"Nice to meet you Jenni" He said. "Do you happen to be new here? I have never seen you before. I think I would have remembered a face like yours. So... What's that word I'm looking for? Oh yes ... Southern."
"Well yes, I am new here and I do come from the south." Said Jenni. "How did you know?"
"Your accent" He said with a chuckle. "You sound like a cow girl, did you move into the house on Maple Dale?" Asked Zak.
Jenni gave him a slight nod.
"Ah, yes.." He looked at her with a tilted head as he leaned against the tree. "You are my new neighbor"
Zak stood up straight and stretched, letting Jenni get a good look at him. Zak was a bit dramatic, but kinda cute...
"Mind if I show you around, Jenni?" He asked.
"Oh, no of course you can show me around. I need some help finding my way back home." Replied Jenni brushing a strand of hair from her eyes.
"And, I heard you singing."
"You did, aye?"
"Yes," said Jenni "You are a great singer."
"Why thank you." Said Zak. "Do you sing?"
"Well yes, Some times. But I'm not at all very good if I say so myself."
"Nonsense! Every one can be a great singer! Well... Unless you are tone deaf"
Jenni chuckled. "I guess.." She smiled.
She stared into his dark brown eyes for a moment and felt some thing. A small pang of belonging.
"Well," he said shattering the silence and crushing it beneath his black converse sneakers. " If you want me to show you the way back to your home I would be delighted."
"ONWARD!" Jenni grabbed his hand and pulled him through the forest, skipping over branches and stones together. Zak had a small grin on his face Jenni noticed as she dragged him beside her. Little did she know, this friendship was going to grow much more.
