I sat in class near the back listening to Willie tell the story of his completed assignment. Apparently he was the only one who actually managed to do it.
"And then I hit him with the pole repeatedly and he was struggling tons but I got him down and finished it off then chucked him in a dumpster and set it on fire, explosion type shit and then it was done." He hammered on. Lin gestured for him to sit back down and realising he'd been going on he did so silently.
I didn't actually know if I'd killed my father or not. Knowing him he was still out there somewhere. So I'd decided to just tell Lin I didn't manage to kill anyone.
"Since you all failed there is a new test. One to make up for this disappointment. Wait outside in the hall." Lin explained dismissing us. I stood up following after Saya.
"Willie. Stay." Lin ordered from behind me.
Once I was in the hall I stayed behind knowing that Lin had something up his sleeve. No way it was this easy. Just as I was thinking about what insane test he'd planned a grating noise came from behind me. I span around watching as a metal gate slammed down almost taking off my foot.
"The fuck?!" Jayden yelled.
"This is the test." Saya piped up her shoulders tense.
"Yeah no shit." Victor scoffed hitting the gate. A hissing noise came and what looked like gas streamed out from the vents.
"Oh jesus fucking christ." Brandy muttered.
The sound of Master Lins voice amplified came through the speakers.
"Your task is to make your way to the botanical classroom and find the riddle to give you the antidote for the poison gas. You have five minutes before you die."
His voice stopped and I swore. Five minutes?!
This was definitely insane.
"How are we supposed to get past these gates?" Maria asked agitated.
"Has anyone tried just opening it?" Jayden said rattling the gates. "Okay no."
Marcus took something out of Brandy's hair making her throw threats at him which he ignored. He crouched down beside the gates lock and fiddled about for a bit before it swung open.
"How the fuck-" Brandy started before I shoved past her walking out of the gate first, everyone following cautiously after me. Knowing Lin there would be a booby trap of some sort or some kind of thing that would induce pain.
I stopped when I came to a corridor slowly looking around for anything out of the ordinary. Chico shoved past me making me stumble a little. Dick.
"Ha! This is too easy." He laughed strutting forwards.
"I really don't think that-"
Saya was cut off as monks came out of nowhere with their canes lunging at us. We all immediately fought them off. One came up behind me attempting to choke me out by holding the cane with both hands and looping it over my head pressing it against my neck. I struggled against him gasping for air trying to push the cane off my airways.
He smashed me against the wall making my nose burst, blood spraying out.
"Bitch!" I yelled struggling harder. His grip tightened forcing me to gasp for air my blood dripping into my mouth, the metallic taste making me gag. Another monk came up in front of me attempting to hit my stomach. I gripped the monks neck that was behind me and used the force to swing my legs up and kick the one in front in the face making him fall back and hit his head hard against the stone wall knocking him out cold.
"Charlotte!"
Marcus rushed over grabbing the cane and pulling it giving me enough room to duck down out of the trap. I stood back up and punched the monk in the jaw sending him stumbling back. I was about to take my anger out on him when Saya grabbed my arm dragging me after her. That's when I noticed a metal wall slowly lowering. I ran beside her and we both slid under it just as it crashed down leaving the others on the other side. I stood up wiping my still bleeding nose.
Saya, Maria, Chico, Petra, Brandy, Viktor and Marcus stood there breathless and bloody.
"Come on we need to move fast, who knows how much time we have left." Petra spoke up. We all ran down the steps coughing and spluttering up blood, the poison kicking in. When we finally made it to the classroom with the antidote a voice came on saying some sort of riddle but my head was to fuzzy to comprehend anything being said.
"Shit, Saya I can't hear anything going on. I'm so dizzy." I heard my muffled voice cry out.
"Come on Ricci I thought you were better than this." I made out Chico scoff.
"Fuck off." Came a response, I'm guessing from me.
My legs gave out and I rolled onto the floor the pain unbearable. I heard thuds around me indicating that everybody else was feeling what I felt.
I was not about to die with Chico in the same room. I forced myself onto my stomach slowly crawling/dragging myself across the floor towards Marcus and Chico who seemed to be pushing eachother out of the way of a plant with red leaves. I noticed a fish label on it and mentally prayed it didn't taste of fish because I'd probably rather die of poison than eat fish.
Chico pushed Marcus harder and he fell to his knees and then onto his side completely out cold. Chico reached out for the plant and then dropped aswell. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Maria also dragging herself over to the plant. We both reached it and grabbed a leaf shoving it down our throats. Then silently we worked on giving it to everybody else. I grabbed a fistful of the leaves and crawled over to Marcus who was closest and gently dropped a leaf into his mouth before moving onto Saya, Viktor and Petra letting Maria do the rest.
I watched as she hesitated on Chico before giving in and shoving it rather forcefully down his throat. He spluttered for a bit before gasping for air and sitting up.
We all said nothing as we walked out of the classroom absolutely covered in blood. Marcus dropped behind the group walking beside me glancing at me every so often.
"Yes Lopez?" I questioned keeping my eyes straight ahead watching Chico grab Maria harshly.
"Thanks for giving me the antidote. Saved my ass." He answered.
"I had to. If I didn't I would've had to clean up the mess you left. So don't take it as a compliment." I retorted as we walked into the canteen.
"Right."
Shabman started hollering about being class president and Viktor grabbed a trash can throwing it over him. Marcus hurried over to help him making me roll my eyes. That boy was too nice for a place like this. I walked past them ignoring Shabmans excited 'Hello Charlotte' and sat down at my usual table beside Maria who had her head in her hands.
"Chico?" I whispered so his minions didn't hear. She nodded slowly raising her head.
"Wanna hang out in my dorm after lunch? I can invite Saya aswell." I forcefully said. I didn't mind Maria, she could be very touchy with boys sometimes but I couldn't blame her, if I was with someone like Chico I'd want to feel loved sometimes.
"Aw is that you attempting to befriend me Charlotte? If so then yes, I'd love to be besties." She teased wiping her watery eyes. I rolled my eyes, my own lips twitching slightly.
"I don't do friends." I replied.
"Uh huh I know."
