the group sits at a table in the cafeteria, awkwardly looking at each other. nicolas looks at tyler, waiting for him to say something.

he stirs his food on his plate.

"i think we should go back to savannah" tyler finally speaks.

"I thought everyone agreed that it was too dangerous..?" logan mentions.

"yeah, that's where this all started." nicolas adds.

"so what? we're just supposed to let things stay the way they are?"

"i'd rather be semi-stuck than permanently stuck" ashlyn says.

"we'll maybe if you had told us the truth from the beginning, we all wouldn't be stuck!" tyler leans forward on the table.

"i already explained to you why i didn't—"

"aren't you one to talk?" aiden retorts. "you're the one who brushed it off as a prank and walked off."

nicolas rests his head on his hand, slowly closing his eyes.

"if she had said anything, would you have believed her? with your personality, i seriously doubt it." aiden says, taunting tyler.

tyler suddenly slams his hands on the table and stands up.

"whether i believed it or not she should have said something!" tyler yells out. "

nicolas opens his eyes to glare at tyler.

"now we're stuck in some demonic dimension, running away from flesh-eating deadly creatures!"

logan looks at nicolas concerned, as if he's worried that the yelling is affecting him.

nicolas gives him a small smile to ease him.

"i've lost count of how many near death experiences i've had! none of us have slept in days! we can't tell our parents or any—"

SLAM!

nicolas flinches and snaps his eyes up to where the sound came from.

ben raises his head from his rested position and puts his finger up to his lips. tyler slowly goes back in his seat.

"if we don't go back to savannah where this cycle begun.." he trails off.

"then what else are we supposed to do?"

everybody lets out a physical sigh, looking at the table.

TWO WEEKS EARLIER

nicolas is running around his room, searching for things to put into his backpack before going to school.

"nicolas!!" his mother yells.

"shit." nicolas rushes down the stairs, shoes in hand.

"get your sisters lunch ready, she needs food."

nicolas frowns.

"why? she old enough to make it herself?"

"nicolas. do it right now."

"but i don't want to and i'm going to be la-"

SLAP!

"you'll do what i say and you won't talk back, you understand boy?"

"yes mom." nicolas gaze shifts to the ground.

"get her lunch ready."

"okay.." nicolas sets his bag down and walks over to the kitchen, rubbing his sore cheek.
