" Ned?"
" Hey, before you say anything. They have a winter formal at Emerson college tomorrow night. I was wondering if you wanted to be my date?"
Nancy smirked to herself.
" I don't know, are you just trying to use your Nickerson charm on me?"
" Charm? No! Listen, do you want to be my date or not?" he joked.
" I'd love to!"
" What were you wanting to talk about? Nevermind! I have to call up Bess and George to go buy a dress!"
Ned laughed and hung up the phone. Nancy dialed Bess's number.
" Hello?" Bess asked.
" Hey, I need your help! Ned asked me to be his date for-"
Bess squealed and the sound of her and George hopping in a car could be heard in the background.
"We're on our way!" they both sang.
Nancy got dressed and met Bess and George outside.
" Where are you taking me?" Nancy asked.
" To this darling dress shop in town! We are going to make you look gorgeous! " Bess sang.
Nancy laughed and sat back as they drove into town. Bess pulled in front of a large store with dresses in the front window. The girls walked into the store and Bess went right to the racks.
George picked out a red dress, but Nancy politely declined. Nancy looked at a wedding dress and imagined herself in one one day, possibly getting married to Ned. She was brought out of her daydream when Bess pushed her to a dressing room and handed her some dresses.
" The last one has to be the charm, Nanc! " Bess said.
Nancy walked out and the cousins fell silent. Nancy's dress accented her perfectly and brought out the blue in her eyes. George couldn't help but cry.
" Do I look that bad?" Nancy asked.
" No, you look beautiful!" George said.
The girls paid for the dress. Bess wasn't done, though. She took the girls to the nail salon and finally out for some hot cocoa. When Nancy got back, she was exhausted. She sent a text to Ned.
Nancy- Back from a long day with Bess and George!
Ned- I take it you got what you needed and left.
Nancy- It's Bess for crying out loud! We went everywhere!
Ned- It's getting late. I'll text you tomorrow!
Panic struck Nancy.
Nancy- Call me please!
Ned called her.
" Are you scared to go to sleep?" he asked.
" Kind of. Is that bad?"
"Not at all. Just know I will always protect you! Love you!"
"Love you, too! Goodnight!" Nancy said hanging up.
She didn't have nightmares that night. She dreamt of the dance and Ned.
