Weeks had passed since the dance at Emerson and everyone grew excited for Christmas. The streets were lined with red ribbons and lights and a Christmas tree was to be lit in Town square. Ned started to wonder what to get Nancy for Christmas. Giving up, he drove over to the Marvin home.
"So, you want to get Nancy something special for Christmas, huh?" Bess asked.
"But, you're not sure what to get her?" George finished off.
Bess squealed and bounced up to hug Ned.
"Oh, we would love to help you!" Bess exclaimed.
"Thanks, but I have no idea what to get her."
"Well, why don't you go on a date to all her favorite places?" George offered.
"That's a great idea. Then, at the end, surprise her with a present!"
"That is a good idea, but what should her present be?"
" That's for you to figure out, Ned. You love her. Prove it to her." Bess said.
Ned thanked the girls before getting back into his car. He pulled out his cell phone and called Nancy. After two rings, she answered.
"Hello?"
"Hey Nancy, are you busy tonight?"
" No, do you want to stop by?" she asked.
"Sure, I'll be over soon. Love you."
"Love you too, Ned." she said before hanging up.
Ned smiled to himself like some lovestruck hearthtrob. He was so lucky to have Nancy as a girlfriend. He pulled up into her driveway where he saw her sitting on the porch with two cups of hot cocoa.
"You didn't have to wait out here for me, Nanc."
"I didn't mind. Let's go into the living room. It's getting a little nippy."
The two of them sat down on the couch and sipped their cocoas.
" Christmas is in four days, are you excited? " asked Ned.
" Yes! Are you?"
"I sure arm. I always act like a child around Christmas."
"I know," she laughed before frowning a little.
"What is it?" he asked concerned.
" I wish my mom was here to celebrate Christmas with us. She always made it extra memorable."
Ned wrapped an arm around her shoulders and kissed her head.
" I know, but I also know she'd want you to be happy. You know why?" he said smirking.
"Why?"
"Because Santa Clause is coming to town!" he belted out dancing around.
Nancy couldn't contain her laughter as he twirled around the room.
"You truly are a child, Ned." she said kissing his cheek.
" I know, I do it all for you." he said.
