Danny screamed, throwing her body from the bed.
"Ach!"
She grasped her forehead, where it had slammed to the floor. Tears poured down her cheeks, wracking her body with shivers and terrified quivers. She reached up to her nightstand with unsteady hands and swallowed her pills.
It had been five years, but the nightmare still haunted her. To the public eye, she had witnessed a kidnapping and murder. But she knew this was not ordinary; the men had scifi technologies that the world did not possess. Danny had been told she was processing trauma, and eventually, her brain would remember what really happened. No one believed her.
The clock read 3:45am. With a sigh, Danny stood from the floor and made her way to the kitchen for a glass of water. Though she no longer lived in the same apartment River and her had shared, Danny found she missed seeing his coffee cup living beside the sink each night.
Danny sipped at the water before heading back to bed. She stopped at the mantel on her way and ran her finger across a photo.
"Oh River.."
With but a moment more of longing for her lost lover, she left for her bed. Maybe this time, when she closed her eyes, she would find peace.
