Sebastian Guptil drew the blade from River's body and watched as the blood trickled out. River looked up, stunned.
"You bastard." River ground out, grinding his teeth in anger.Sebastian kneeled over River,
"I'll give you one last chance; where are they?"River looked up, his face bloodied from resistance, and smiled.
"It's too late! Ha ha ha! They are gone!"
He burst into an uncomfortable laughter.Sebastian snatched a handful of River's hair and tipped his head back.
"Gone?"
River spat at Sebastian.
"You heard me. I sold it to the Glargs three weeks ago. It's gone, and before you get your hopes up, so is the money."
Sebastian threw River away from him in a seething rage and bellowed out a growl.
"You very well just started a war, River."
Sebastian ushered to his men they were finished here, and within a few moments, the sound of space boots was gone.
"Those fuckers," River looked over at Danny, her body still unconcious from the fall, "they will pay for involving you."
He leaned his head back and splurted up blood. Did he have twenty seconds? Ten? With a groan, he rolled on his side and fished in his pocket. There! It was still there! He withdrew a rounded cellular-looking device and entered data with the buttons.
"I'm sorry, Danny. I promise I'll fix this mess before it ever happens."With shakey hands, he managed to hit enter before his body collapsed to the floor in a bloody heap. This me, he thought, might be dead; but past me won't let this slide. River smiled, feeling satisfied, and drew his last breath.
Years before, River's Spectron buzzed; 'I'm dead in the future. Sebastian. Crystals. Bad deal.'
"What's the matter?"
Danny looked over at River from the terrace, cool ocean breezes softly tousling her hair.
"It's nothing, just some spam."
He dropped the Spectron back in his pocket and took Danny's arm, a flash of jewels shimmered under the moonlight from her bracelet. The crystals. They stayed safe - hidden in plain sight - though at the expense of his life. Danny needed to be protected!
Sebastian would search time and space to get these crystals back.
River sighed.
"Darling?"
"It's nothing, Danny. I'm just enjoying this beautiful night."
