The morning sun was just streaming into the thugs' hideout.
Norman Price was lazing on his makeshift bed, when suddenly...
"WAKE UP, NORMAN!" yelled a loud voice.
Norman awoke with a start, to see Spanner's face very close to him.
"Ugh, Spanner," Norman groaned, slowly rubbing his eyes. "Not so loud, please."
He saw the other thugs standing around him. "Ya ready for your initiation, Normie?" Gruffston said.
"Yeah," Norman said, still groggy. "What time is it?" he saw an old, yet still working grandfather clock. "5:00 Am!" he exclaimed. "Why are we up this early?"
"All part of the initiation." Gruffston said. "I hope you didn't forget."
"Uh, what is the intiation?" Norman asked.
"You'll see." Spanner said, as he, the other thugs, and Norman, all headed out to the motor home/getaway vehicle. "Like I said yesterday," he added, as he got in, "it's just a test to see if you can stand on your own two feet."
"Easy." Norman said proudly. "I'm not afraid of anything."
"But, he asked the thugs as the motor home/getaway vehicle pulled away, "what do I have to do?"
------
Norman Price soon found out.
As the sunrise streaked the streets of Newtown, Norman, Gruffston, Spanner, Jackson, and Barge all peered out from the alley.
"What are we doing here?" Norman asked.
"See that place?" Gruffston said, pointing to a café. "Every morning, at 8am, that café over there gets it's bread & meat delivery."
"A white delivery van comes up, and parks outside whilst the driver gets permission to load the deliveries in the café's back hatch." Barge said.
"If we can get to that van, we can loot it for it's delicious contents." Spanner said.
"Delicious?" Norman questioned.
"Trust me; it's all part of the plan." Spanner said.
"Everyone knows the plan?" Gruffston said.
"Yes, boss." everyone but Norman said.
"Not really." Norman said. "What's the plan?"
"It's simple." Gruffston said. "When the van stops in it's parking space, the driver gets out and goes into the café to ask permission to deliver its goods. Barge will create a distraction to keep the driver distracted, whilst Spanner does his work on the van's back door lock. Jackson will provide lookout to make sure we're not detected, and once Spanner gets the lock open, he'll steal some boxes of bread & meat from the van, and load'em onto our wheeled trolley." He showed Norman a trolley that looked almost as if it was from a supermarket, but it had a few holes in the bars, and the handle looked like it had been spray painted on.
"That's where you come in." Jackson said to Norman. "When Spanner gives the signal, you pull the trolley out to our van with a rope. the boss will load it onto our van and then, we run for it!"
"What's the signal?" Norman asked.
"When Spanner bangs his Spanners, Normie," Gruffston said.
Spanner quickly grabbed the spanners on the chains on his waistcoat, and banged them together 3 times. "Right." Norman said.
Norman was very sure this was wrong, but he didn't want the thugs to think he was a wimp, in case they threw him outta their gang. "I'm in." he said.
"OK." Gruffston said. "Arms in, boys."
