After several months of hard work and wedding planning, the big day has finally come. Or June 12th as we'll always call it. We look into a Fiji wedding. Although it sounds absolutely stunning, it isn't for us. We look up other tropical locations and choose to have the ceremony in Belize. It's a perfect day and we have a beach wedding, so it's like a two birds with one stone situation.
I hold onto my dad's arm tightly as we walk down the aisle. He smiles a little.
"It's okay, Abigail. The nerves will pass," he whispers.
I smile and nod slightly. We reach the end. He lifts my veil and kisses my cheeks before going to sit down. I turn to face Chris who looks handsome in his suit. We choose to recite traditional vows. We had considered going with our own vows but decided against it. Ironically, the things that we want to say are too personal to share in front of the witnesses. Chris repeats after the minister and puts the ring on my finger. I say the vows after him and put the ring on his finger. The minister announces that we're married now. Chris kisses me sweetly. I kiss him back, beyond excited to be his wife.
We head to a nearby reception hall afterwards for a few hours. We have a three tier chocolate cake with vanilla icing and little swirls all over it. There are also bride and grown figures on the top. I'm a little nervous about the father daughter dance because we've never really danced before.
"I want you to know that I'm very happy for you," he says.
"Thank you. I know you were never really crazy about our relationship."
"I wasn't, but I've seen how he treats you. He loves you with his entire being. That's all your mom and I want to see in a husband. So, I've come around a bit more."
I smile.
"I'm happy to hear you say that."
I give him a hug when the dance ends. We dance a lot more as a group until the reception is over. We say goodbye and leave for our hotel. We'll be leaving for Italy in the morning. He carries me into our hotel room and sets me down on the bed. He caresses my face.
"My Abby," he says softly.
"Now and forever."
He smiles and kisses me lovingly. I kiss him back and spend the night with my new husband. As I fall asleep in his arms, I smile to myself. I'm excited to start this new chapter of our lives together.
