"That was close" Tones giggled. Nick laughed a bit. But of course, the moment couldn't last.
Nick paused, then started again.

"You said your mom didn't want you to come home tonight, Why? If you don't mind me asking" Nick asked.

Tones felt his heart drop.
He had to tell him.

"Well, my dad isn't the best person. Before I left the house to come here, he was already drunk and acting different...irrational. My mom works 3 jobs because my dad has been fired too many times for showing up to work drunk or high" Tones explained shakily.

Nick let his date speak, he didn't want to interrupt him.

"He's also pretty homophobic and doesn't accept me or my cousins" Tones said, more tears forming in his eyes.

Nick placed his hand in Tones' and rubbed his date's knuckles with his thumb. It hurt him to see his date like this. He knew Tones was hurting as well.

Nick sat up straight and placed his arms around Tones. He pulled him into a soft hug, rubbing the boy's back slowly. Tones felt safe -which wasn't something that happened at home very often.

Chris' POV :

"I think I interrupted them upstairs" I said to Matt. He gave me a weird look.

"Interrupted what?" He said.

I gave him another look.
This kid is so oblivious.

After a couple of seconds, he caught on.
"Oh shit, did you see anything?" Matt asked.

"No, they just looked rattled, blushing a lot too" I laughed.

"Nothing you can do now I guess" Matt replied.

He got a ping on his phone. It was from Nick.

Nick : hey, tones needs to stay over tonight
Matt : ok. everything alright?
Nick : not really, but ive got it
Matt : ok, lmk if you need anything.
Nick : do you have any clothes he could borrow? hes like a size smaller
Matt : yeah I can check. want me to bring it up?
Nick : yes please
