"Vamos Manny!" I look up from my book, only to see my mom jumping around, screaming. "Kick it! Kick it! Don't let him kick it!" She screams. I sigh. I'm sitting in a lawn chair, next to Jay. I'm reading my favourite book. I think he's napping... actually, I'm not sure.
We're watching Manny's football game. Or, that's maybe too much to call it. Him and his team, aren't even that good. No offense Manny. I try to be supportive, but when I can't be that, luckily I'm good at faking it. Jay, not so much.
My mom, is very supportive. She is cheering and for some eyes she may seem like a lunatic. "No! No, he tripped him!" My mom suddenly says frustrated. "Where's the penalty?!"
"Gloria, they're 0 and 6." Jay says from next to me. "Let's take it down a notch." I nod without looking up from my book.
"Yeah mom," I agree with Jay. But I don't think she hears us.
Anyway, I turned my attention back to my book.
After some minutes, I looked up to see if anything had happened in the game, while I wasn't looking. Nothing had happened. Except, that Manny gets distracted by a girl riding her bike. He waved at her, meanwhile, his distraction causes the other team to score because he fails to block the ball. "Damn it, Manny!" A mom yells. "Come on coach, you gotta take that kid out." She complains, and that gets my mom's attention.
"You wanna take him out? How about I take you out?!" My mom yells to her. I cringed, down in my chair. I hated when my mom - or anyone I knew - made a scene, and I couldn't help but get embarrassed, when people looked at her.
"Mom..." I whispered barely below a whisper.
"Honey, honey..." Jay tries too.
"Why don't you worry about your son?!" My mom keeps on, and I cover my face so no one can see how embarrassed I am. "He spent the first half with his hand in his pants." The other mom rolls her eyes and walks away. I sigh relieved, glad that it's over and when I'm sure no one is looking anymore I remove my hands from my face. A soccer dad, then approached mom.
"I wanted to tell her off the last six weeks," He takes off his sunglasses and holds out his hand for her to shake. "I'm Josh, Ryan's Dad."
"Hi, I'm Gloria Pritchett," She introduce herself. "Manny's mother, and this is Manny's twin sister, Ellie." I nod polietly up to him.
"Oh, this must be your dad," Josh points to Jay.
I look at Jay, with wide eyes, and see him put down the newspaper he was holding. It's not the first time. People often assume that he's my mom's father, and that he's my grandfather.
"Her dad?" Jay says, and I can hear that he's a bit offended. "Oh no, no that's funny. No actually, I'm her husband. Don't be fooled by the, uh..." he struggles to get himself up from the chair. "Give me a second here."
I sigh, and tries to cover my face with my book.

After the soccer game, Manny and I walk to the car with mom and Jay. His team lost, to no one's surprise.
"I'm quitting soccer." Manny suddenly says. "It's for children.""No you're not quitting." Mom says. "You would have stopped that goal if you weren't staring at that little girl."
"She is not a girl, she's a woman." Manny insist, I roll my eyes, and we all got in the car.
"Y'know, Gloria, that little blowup with the other mom... why did you have to do things like that?" Jay asks while driving.
"If somebody says something about my family, I'm going to-"
