A little bit of background: Not really shown in this drama, yet, is why Sang Zhi can be rather timid and act younger than her age at times as if she won’t say boo to a goose. This was because she was over-protected. In the novel, when she was just a mere baby, Sang Yan was so jealous of her because as soon as she was born, she instantly became the focus of everyone’s attention. Suddenly he was being sidelined. He used to resent Sang Zhi so much but then one day, she was not there. Sang Yan was curious and asked his parents where his sister had gone.
His parents wickedly told him that Sang Zhi is gone. Poor Sang Yan was inconsolable. He thought his young sister had died. He cried and cried and blamed himself.
Sang Zhi was in the hospital; she was very poorly until they found out about her many allergies. Because of this, she was being watched like a hawk; they monitor what she eats, wears, and touches.
Even Sang Yan learned not to complain about doing household chores while his sister was treated like a porcelain doll. In fact, he actively made sure that Sang Zhi is wrapped in cotton wool. She was not allowed in the kitchen, she was not allowed to use a knife or cook. She was a princess, spoiled by the family although Sang Yan would jovially call her the little demon.
